Phenethylamines getting 81g of San Pedro...how do I test what I have?

OK so I bought 81 grams of San Pedro dried cactus powder and am waiting for it to arrive. I'm told that is enough for one heroic trip (or 2 regular trips I suppose). I'm really interested in getting the full cactus mescaline experience, but I also realize this is a huge amount of psychoactive powder to be putting in one's body. I have no reason to suspect that this person has put anything other than what he said was in there, but I would still like to be as safe as I can. Would reagent testing this powder be worthwhile or is there so much material that nothing would show up anyhow? Maybe there is something else that I can do? What would you all suggest so that I can consume this safely and with peace of mind?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

I mean I suppose you could test it but if you're getting it from a reliable vendor there shouldn't be worries, and you'd need a strong reagent cause that shits dilute. But also do not just mix it in water and expect a good time. Extract. At the very least make tea.

yeah I heard it gets pretty gooey. The vendor told me to eat it and wash it down with acidic juice. Would that not work?

I read somewhere years ago that dried San Pedro is 20-30x as concentrated as fresh cactus. So, your 81gr is 1620+gr fresh cactus. Another information source states that on the whole, San Pedro often contains about 1gr mescaline per kg. I am very sensitive to psychedelics, but 100gr fresh san pedro royally took care of my needs and more average trippers took about 400-600gr fresh., grams expressing basically as milligrams of mescaline sulfate.

What I would do is if you want a 500-ish trip, to weigh 25 grams of your powder, stir it into some fresh lemon or lime juice, add a liter of water, boil at a simmer for 3-4 hours until it thins, occasionally adding fresh water, until you hydrolyzed most of the slime making it thin, filter through a cloth, boiling it down to a shotglass or two, cooling or chilling this, blowing Baby Jesus a kiss and slamming it down before washing it down with juice, taking a digestive mint after to ease the tummy. The liquid can be frozen in a -18'C freezer for over a year.

In our fresh method, we despined cuttings, diced the cactus on the cutting board, added the water and lemon/lime juice (serves to bind the mescaline as its citrate) and just boiled into a pulp, then a slime, then a thin liquid concentrate where 1kg fresh cactus was reduced to 500ml liquid.

Wow so it sounds like 81g all at once would be really strong. Maybe too strong for one dose? I'm always afraid that I'm not dosing as much as I should because it seems like I'm naturally really tolerant. My goal is to get a full and enlightening experience without fail. Mescaline cactus has been really rare and expensive for me to get ahold of do when I do it I really want to make sure that I definitely get something out of it, but it would be really awesome if I can stretch it out and use this powder 2 or more times too.

This particular vendor only deals with plant medicines so I highly doubt there are any adulterants in the powder that could be dangerous...and the reviews are very positive but I can't say that it's not a worry of mine! :) I do want to be as safety conscious as I can be but it seems like harm reduction methods are limited to some extent. Ill definitely try that method. Thanks for the info!

Forgot to ask but how many grams of dried powder would be enough for a strong transformative trip? As I said before my tolerance seems to be naturally pretty high so with that in mind I tend to lean towards taking more. I was told by the vendor that 81g is what he sells to give a legendary dose. From what im hearing that sounds like a ton but i don't know the true nature of mescaline. Is that way too much? How much have you all taken to achieve a really strong but pleasant trip?

I appreciate all your input 🙏

Its VERY, VERY difficult to swallow. Capsule it dried and it blows up to ten times in volume when it hits your stomach - terrible nausea. Make tea and it turns into horrendous tasting cactus snot with the consistency of vomit. My advice is just prepare a tiny bit and see if you can swallow it or not. I usually spent hours preparing it, then took one sip, gipped it all back out again and said "Fuck that".

I can also suggest making tea. Use distilled water so you don't have to worry about impurities or pH. You can add a little lemon juice, maybe a teaspoon or two, but as I understand it, most of the mescaline is likely already in the malate salt form. Boil it for a a few hours, then leave it in the fridge for several hours or even for a couple days. Remove it from the fridge and carefully pour off as much of the clear liquid on top as possible pouring any of the solids. Repeat this process something like 4-6 times, collecting the resulting liquid. Note that you probably don't need more than an hour of boiling for the later extractions. The collected liquid will need to be reduced to some reasonable drinkable portion. Be mindful of heat applied in these processes. The plant matter mix may be prone to boiling over. Keep the heat especially low while reducing as the liquid thickens, which can cause the temperature to rise and increase the chance of damaging the alkaloids. Watch closely to avoid letting it get too hot or dry too quickly. For your 81g, if you can reduce it down to 160 mL, that's great, but that might be too thick and 250 mL may be more reasonable. You'll have to figure it out for your material.

Every cactus is different, and their strength can vary by many times. A very strong trip may require as little as 15g or more than 200 g. What I would do is start with 20g or one quarter of the preparation. It probably won't be that strong, but then you'll still have 60g left over for a stronger trip later. Only a handful of cacti are overpowering with only 20 g, and almost all active San Pedro do at least something at 60 g. For many 60 g is plenty strong.

I know a lot of people complain about the taste, but I think it's a bit exaggerated. Depending on the cactus and the presence of polyphenols and tannins and the like, it can be extremely bitter and also oddly salty, but it is medicine after all. IMO, the key is to avoid consuming the solids and to keep the drinkable portion small enough. Don't hesitate, allowing unpleasant flavors to linger. Just drink it. Have some water or other drink to chase with. Split the dose into two swigs, about 15-20 minutes apart, or if you can bear the flavor, sip it over a similar period. By not drinking it all at once, you reduce the likelihood of vagal reflex indued nausea which even pure mescaline can trigger sometimes.

I highly recommend taking it during the day, shortly after you wake up because it lasts a long time and I think it has more to offer in daylight than darkness. I also recommend spending much of the trip outside in a "natural" setting if possible. Keep in mind that it takes effect very slowly and will probably need at least 4 hours to peak. (I've had cacti that didn't peak until 7 hours in.) The whole experience lasts 10-14 hours or more for large doses. If you are used to mushrooms and LSD, you will probably find mescaline to be more lucid than those relative to the strength of effects. Some people find it more stimulating as well, but opinions vary as do different cacti.

Good luck!

Dont bother trying to mask the taste with ice cream or anything - its like putting ketchup on a turd - it still tastes like a turd. When you pull the glass away from your lips you get a long cable of cactus snot from the cup to your chin.

Horrendous nausea too - I nearly vomited up my ringpeice.

You can squirt it up your bunghole - no nausea at all that way, but beware anal leakage.

Cactus doesn't taste like turd! It's more like salty roasted prune juice mixed with 20X India Pale Ale (if such a thing existed). And the "snot" aka mucilage (if your cactus has much of it to begin with) is merely a kind of carbohydrate like starch or cellulose. It contributes no flavor and barely imparts any change to the texture unless it's extremely thick. Don't psyche yourself into thinking it's disgusting. Speak to the plant, and let it speak to you. Embrace the bitterness, and accept it as the price for 12+ hours of healing and blissful contemplation. I personally find it much more palatable than ayahuasca tea or Jurema (DMT-containing) tea.

And FWIW, we're all different (and cacti are too), but I get no more nausea from my cactus teas than most other psychedelics. Keep the solids out of the tea and consume the dose over time instead of all at once. IME 15-20 minutes is plenty to avoid overwhelming your body with all the mescaline at once.
