(Game) Warframe for PS4

I'm surprised more people here with a PS4 don't play this game. It's a free MMO for PS4 with a similar feel to the highly popular 'Destiny.'

When I first found it I was stunned that such a high-quality game was available to play for free on playstation. I assumed that you couldn't really have any fun unless you shelled out real money for credits or good equipment or whatever, you know how those "free-to-play" games sucker you out of your money. But as I continued to play over the past year or so I discovered you can access anything you want without paying cash relatively easily by farming the parts/weapons/whatever you need.

The game has robust leveling, equipment, weapon, ability, PvP, PvE, and quest systems and the Dev team is regularly updating the software to fix bugs and introduce new things. If you showed me the game and told me you bought it at Gamestop for $50 I wouldn't even question it. It's that well-made and maintained.

If you haven't checked it out and you have a PS4, do yourself a favor and give it a shot.

I checked it out when you (or someone else, but I think it was you, GM) mentioned it a couple months back in a PS4 thread. The trailer they had for it looked pretty cool but I ended up not downloading it.

I'm not normally into MMO's and I remember you saying that it wasn't really pay-to-win, but I'm always skeptical with that kind of stuff and I don't have much free space on my console as it is (I'm talking less than 60mb free right now... gotta upgrade the memory somehow.)


You need more people to play it with? I don't have a headset, atm, but I'd give it a shot if you were just looking to play with people you're somewhat familiar with. I gotta get through Until Dawn first, though. =D
 
I mean there are lots of people to play with, thousands around the globe at any given time, I just wanted to mention it again because the quality is so damn good and it's free. Anyone into games like Destiny should definitely check it out.

But it is a big file. You'd definitely need a lot more memory to install it. I think it's around 18 gigs. Most people don't even use headsets except for special events/quests where teamwork is critical for success. For the regular gameplay you basically have all the planets in the solar system and 10ish sub-planets or moons that are all individual levels. Some are defense(protect this reactor from the swarming enemies), survival(last as long as you can while fighting enemies, exterminate(kill all enemies on the level), Capture(find a special enemy and take him down), and stuff like that. The real fun comes from the special events where you can earn great weapons, armor, etc. The Devs are constantly releasing new stuff. Actually a lot more often than even paid games do when they release new downloadable contest or mission packs. There's a companion system(machine or wolf), a whole separate level type called Archwing(basically strapping on a jetpack and flying around in all-directional sky while fighting in space) which is pretty badass too. I could go on and on and still fall short of explaining all the different things you can do.

It's nice because it's so robust and still feels fresh after literally dozens and dozens of hours of gameplay. I have lots of the best equipment and stuff and haven't paid a penny, so everything is definitely accessible without spending any real cash. It's so robust in fact that they must be making a TON of money from players paying cash for items because there's no way they could have such an engaged and large Dev team otherwise.

In terms of it being an MMO, how essential is it to have huge groups of people to play with? Like, can you consistently just log on and do your own thing most of the time?
 
The entire game can and usually is played in the "just log in whenever you want and do your own thing" manner. Instead of calling it an MMO I should have called it an online game that includes other people. Every mission, level, special event, etc. is just you deciding to play a level and the system matching you up with 3 other players. You play as a team but 90% of the time nobody communicates with each other. You all know the common goal and you all just do it. I've been playing for over a year and I haven't made a single 'friend' or playing partner. It's almost like a single-player game that happens to have other people playing along side you.

Of course if you want it to be more social it can be. There's a whole clan system that some people take to a social level. They plan hunting parties and all that stuff. But even that is optional. I'm in a clan due to the in-game benefits yet I've never talked to or played with anyone in that clan. I'd rather play it more like a single-player game and so I do. And I've never missed out on anything the game has to offer by not becoming more involved with the other people playing it.

There's a single exception, a special event they held that absolutely required everyone to talk to each other or you'd never finish it. We're talking a mission that took parties of eight 2 hours to finish, . It was the only time I ever used a headset playing warframe. It was cool because it was a change of pace but otherwise, I'll log in after work for a little bit, never interact with a soul other than playing the same mission as they are, and then log out when I'm done.
 
That makes this game sound so much more awesome. Once I finish Until Dawn (shouldn't take more than a few days), I'll delete that sum bitch and see what's up with Warframe.




I hate, hate, HATE those other online games where you need parties of like 32 people before you even get a chance to play the fucking thing. Seems Warframe's not like that, but I thought it was at first.
 
Yeah I don't like games like that either. I want something I can pick up and put down whenever I feel like without having to plan anything. Warframe isn't anything like that. I can and have gone a few months at a time without playing it and after that break I can still pick up where I left off without depending on any other players.
