I have been taking gabapentin for about five years. My current dose is 1500 mg daily.
I've read that consistent use commonly causes a rapid onset of tolerance, but I feel I have found the opposite to be true. It has only been within the past year that a certain dimension of its effects has diminished to almost nothing. The easing of anxiety and sedation is still there, along with a little body "buzz." But the motivation, antidepressant, and mood-lifting effect has receded.
I know that taking a break is the way to potentially decrease tolerance, and I'm wondering anyone has done this with success. That is, has anyone seen a return of more pronounced effects after a period of abstinence.
What kind of taper should I consider? What should I expect in terms of withdrawal? How long of a break would be required to re-balance before re-introducing the drug?
