Hello, I am new here so please excuse me if this is the wrong forum for this post. I have been taking Gabapentin for a few months, for nerve pain in my face. However, I have found this drug to be recreational at higher doses, but I have built up a tolerance and have to take higher dosage to achieve the same good feelings as before. I know the internet says Naproxen helps to make more absorb, and supposedly taking it on a full stomach also helps. I would like to know if it would be okay to drink a little alcohol while I am taking this? I don't mean drink a lot, maybe one or two mixed drinks. Would this help potentiate the effects of Gabapentin, the good feelings that it once gave me, or is this dangerous. I don't have access to other types of prescription medicines due to finances. I would appreciate your opinions. Thank you!

^The numbers will vary for individuals, the point is it creates synergy so 1 + 1 = >2. Start slow and be careful and as long as you don't drive you should be good.

Thank you for your responses, I appreciate it. One more question, is there anything OTC that would enhance the good feeling I get from Gabapentin? If I have developed a tolerance to it, should I keep taking a higher dose to get the same effect I like, or should I take one day and not take any of it? I appreciate your help.

if you're using it regularly it will take much more than 1 day of abstinence to reverse any tolerance. Idk of anything OTC to potentiate it except naproxen as you mentioned.

Thank you for your help! I'll try one drink, see how I feel, then go from there. Thanks again.

I take gabapentin for nerve damage... All I can say is start slow with alcohol. With some people, gabapentin will increase the effect of alcohol a lot, and with others a little. The first time I drank on gabapentin, I got drunk really really quickly (like off of 1 drink), but after doing it a couple more times, my tolerance increased.

Now I can handle 12 drinks relatively well.

naproxen works wonders too increase the bioavailability, go to the pharmacy and pick up some aleve and drinking on gabapentin is dangerous because as others mentioned it gets you substantially drunker then drinking without it. also if you get to the point where gabapentin does dick all at (very) high doses, you need to take adleast a month break in order to feel the recreational effect that comes with the initial times you used it especially daily in high doses.

Nerve pain in the face? I have that as well and what a cunt it is so you have my sympathies.

If you drink much on a big dose of gabapentin you'l be acting like the village drunk in no time. Total fucking loss of coorirdination happened to me on 3000mg's of gabapentin and about 5 or 6 drinks. Normally i can drink 12 drinks and you won't even notice it. So yeah it potentiates it alot.
