So I have some family that live in the SF area. I havent been there in like 10-13 years so I have some questions that jeeves might not be able to answer:

1. Is it cold in the winter?
Im in Michigan so cold to me is different to me

2. Hows the drugs?
Its california right? So I mean you guys have drugs, and lots of them. Ive sampled your fine marijuana and methamphetamine, but do you guys habe the BZP problems we have here?

3. Hows the nightlife? Name some places
Again I say it is California. But are there clubs that are open all night on like a tuesday night?

4. Raves? How often?
All I know about this is from the events thread and the movie Groove (lame)

5. Tobacco?
Expensive, probably.

6. Stuff to see?
No touristy stuff. I saw all that stuff when I was young, so what do you trendy fucking SF people do for fun?

7. The beach?
Will I look crazy swiming in it during November?

8. Places?
To stay away from? Areas for the best odds to cop? (does it break the rules, maybe. Im speaking generally, not exact addys )

9. The pigs?
Do they hassle the white man?

Answer away

i live here so here are a few pro tips:

1. Is it cold in the winter?
i think it's cold, but i'm a california wuss and think everything not sunny is cold. i'm sure the cold won't be shit compared to michigan. it can get rainy and foggy here but there's no snow.

2. Hows the drugs?
there's loads of drugs here, but i suppose it depends on who you know just like anywhere else. the mdma i've seen lately is grams of molly rather than pressed stuff, but even pressed pills here seem mostly decent. check pillreports for trends. weed is abundant (obviously) and i smoke in plain sight on the street. there's plenty of coke around as well, ketamine in the right circles, various hallucinogens on offer, etc. i have no idea about meth because i don't touch it and don't knowingly associate with tweekers.

3. Hows the nightlife? Name some places
there are no above ground clubs i know of that would be open all night on a tuesday night. i personally am more into the underground/renegade scene and those events tend to run until about 6am. i'm playing a rooftop party on halloween that will go until the cops shut us down and a hay maze party in half moon bay the next weekend that runs until 6am. if you want the all night action i would recommend outdoor parties and warehouse parties over clubs. with that said, mighty generally goes until 4am i think, temple runs til 4am some nights, ruby skye is a big club here, 1015 folsom also brings in well-known headliners... just not my scene is all.

4. Raves? How often?
you just missed love parade. to get an idea of what that looked like, check out http://www.sflovevolution.org/ that will pretty much sum it up. again, if you're lucky you'll get tapped into the underground scene here. that's where all the tastiest late night stuff happens, although san francisco law enforcement has been cracking down a lot lately and is forcing the scene to places like the east bay (oakland) and beyond.

5. Tobacco?
i don't know, like $6 a pack i guess. not cheap, but i've notices smokes seem to be a ripoff everywhere these days.

6. Stuff to see?
if you can't find anything to see here you're a retard and should fly back to michigan immediately. the tourist stuff here is actually pretty awesome - people flock to it for a reason. honestly dude i would suggest checking your shitty attitude before you even bother visiting here. you probably won't make many friends if you treat people like they are a bunch of trendy, pretentious whorebags.

7. The beach?
the only people who swim in the ocean in november are training for triathalons.

8. Places?
there are a few dodgy areas of town. it will be plainly obvious when you get there. and no, we can't tell you where to cop.

9. The pigs?
i normally hate the cops but i have nothing bad to say about the cops in san francisco. they generally have better things to do than fuck around with some random on the street who is operating just a bit outside of the law. still, if you're acting like a dumbass you can expect to get treated like one.

I have been to the city a few times during the time I lived in Humboldt, so I am no expert. Here are some observations:

1. Is it cold in the winter?
It is a strange sort of cold, like the wind and mist from the Bay cuts right through you.

2. Hows the drugs?
Good Acid, Cannabis, and Cocaine. I also scored some top-notch Opium there.

3. Hows the nightlife? Name some places
I dig the bars in the lower Haight at night.

4. Raves? How often?
I am a bit paranoid about all the bad E that is everywhere (not just in SF), so I usually stay away.

5. Tobacco?
I do not smoke cigarettes, but there are shops which carry Bidis, which I dig on occasion.

6. Stuff to see?
I love the Haight and Chinatown, especially Chinatown.

7. The beach?
Will I look crazy swiming in it during November?
You will look cold, that is for sure, but the beach is good for parties.

8. Places?
To stay away from?
Mission, South of Market, Tenderloin.

9. The pigs?
Do they hassle the white man?
Cops hassle everyone, everywhere, however in SF they seem way more chill.

1. Is it cold in the winter?
I'd say in the winter it gets have some cool or windy nights. So far I haven't really noticed anything less than 40. Never gets over like 90 degrees, too.

2. Hows the drugs?
There are quite a few of drugs here. I don't really know where to get the best of stuff yet, but it's certainly available. I have yet to find schwag... The acid I've had has been so-so, so I haven't found a good acid dealer yet. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know where to get RCs, DMT, Coke, etc.

3. Hows the nightlife? Name some places
If you look around there's always something going on.

4. Raves? How often?
There are tons of rave opportunities in the bay. I don't go to raves... but I'm pretty sure you can find at least 3 or 4 decent raves a week. (I could be wrong, I wouldn't be surprised if it were way more -- or way less)

5. Tobacco?
Don't ever buy that.

6. Stuff to see?
Haight-Ashbury is a great place. If you're into shopping for relatively high priced things, the mall in downtown is huge, if you're into buying cheap stuff, the mission is cheap (and huge). Beach is fun, golden gate park is awesome (and rather big, too), the touristy things are fun, too...

7. The beach?
If you have a wetsuit... maybe not. I've seen the occasional surfer out on ocean beach. I have yet to surf here myself, though. :/

8. Places?
Yeah it'll be obvious when you get there

9. The pigs?
They're everywhere, but they're pretty chill compared to the cops in my last hometown.

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and actually lived in the City itself for a good deal of time, and would go there every chance I got.

1. Is it cold in the winter?
Im in Michigan so cold to me is different to me.

Actually the winters are quite mild and pleasant. It can get rainy in the winter but snow is extremly rare- maybe 1-2 times a century. The summers are a different story, though. To quote Mark Twain, "...the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." June- Aug are cold and foggy typically. If you check the weather channel it is not rare for the high in Seattle or Anchorage to be higher during these months. And the wind and fog make it bone chilling even if the high is up to low 60s. Sep-Oct by contrast you get "Indian Summer"- beautiful warm spectacular days. That and apr/may best time of year to visit although I love the summer fog.

2. Hows the drugs?
Its california right? So I mean you guys have drugs, and lots of them. Ive sampled your fine marijuana and methamphetamine, but do you guys habe the BZP problems we have here?

Been in San Diego for a while so I don't have up to date info but you have a wide assortement of drugs available. Use to have big open air drug scenes in some parts of the City. Highest percentage of heroin addicts on the west coast. But overall the drug scene in general is prety vibrant amd has been since atleast the 50s (with the beatnicks). The summer of love happened here. And Alexander Shulgin, the man that rediscovered MDMA, and wrote PIKHAL is from the Bay Area (his famous lab/ house) is in the East Bay near Orinda- Owsley's old haunt.

3. Hows the nightlife? Name some places
Again I say it is California. But are there clubs that are open all night on like a tuesday night?

Nightlife last I checked was very good and varied. What was cool about the late 90s is that it was egalitarian and diverse- none of the pathetic attitude of cities like LA and NYC. Probably find something on tuesday nights- SF Weekly good resource.

4. Raves? How often?
All I know about this is from the events thread and the movie Groove (lame)

Can't comment, out of loop. But you should have been here in the late 80s, very early 90s in the days of toons town raves and the full moon parties at Bonny Dunes. Use to have a SF raves website or something like that in 99'-01. But shouldn't be that hard to find an underground event.

5. Tobacco?
Expensive, probably.

I would imagine so.

6. Stuff to see?
No touristy stuff. I saw all that stuff when I was young, so what do you trendy fucking SF people do for fun?

In my opinion, San Francisco is the most beautiful city in the world, what one cannot argue is that it is one of the world's great cities. Not just the city itself but the natural setting are breathtaking. There is a scenic drive I would suggest that hits the highlights and is marked by signs- the city is compact. The only place I would avoid is Fisherman's Warf. North Beach/Chinatown, Twin Peaks, Mission District, the Haight, Hayes Valley, Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower, both bridges. Consider checking out the surrounding cities in Marin County, the East Bay (Accesible by BART) and Highway 1 down to Santa Cruz. The City is a very vibrant, cosmopolitan, and progressive place.

7. The beach?
Will I look crazy swiming in it during November?

Not any crazier than swimming in July. The water temps are in the 50s year round. Wetsuits are a must, even for the summer. This is definately not your Bay Watch type of town.

8. Places?
To stay away from? Areas for the best odds to cop? (does it break the rules, maybe. Im speaking generally, not exact addys
)

This is a city were you can have a multimillion dollar house right next to a ghetto rental property- quite common. It is a very densely populated city so cops are everywhere. The tenderloin, Mission district, Hunters Point, and the civic center around the building were the UN Charter was signed have particularly high crime rates- watch your wallet.

9. The pigs?
Do they hassle the white man?

Depends on the cop. They are more chill hear than other cities. I think they are probably alittle more color blind too. The great thing about coping on the street was that this is such a diverse city I wouldn't stick out. In fact some of the hip parts of town (the Mission) also had thriving dope scenes.

Alittle trivia I like to bring up occassionally, in the city of San Jose, 1 hr south, Joseph McNamara, the police chief of San Jose from 1976-1990 was a major voice for the legalization of all drugs and ending the drug war during his tenure. He was one of the first high profile political figures to advocate legalization during the Reagan "just say no" era. Now he works as a proffesor for Stanford. I actually had cops give me back buds twice in the late 80s-early 90s. Not confiscate it and smoke it themselves or arrest me, actually give it back. During his time as Police Chief, San Jose was the safest major city in the USA according to the FBI's crime index. Daryl Gates, chief of police for LA during the same time- went on record as saying drug users are traitors who should receive the death penalty saw his city descend into a riot towards the end of his term as chief of Police.
