Bullshit? Don't get me wrong they have "good" intentions because cigarettes can start fires... but I haven't heard of a cig starting a forest fire in NC lately... They taste horrible, it seems like overnight my drags starting tasting harsher and harsher and now I'm about to quit (which isn't so bad)... But still, doesn't seem right

this explains a little better:!

Weird, those sound pretty shitty. I don't smoke many cigarettes these days (I've been prefering cigarillos, they're way better in my opinion), but when I did and when I do I throw the butts in the trash. Because that's where cigarette butts should go. It's weird that they got harsher and harsher overnight.

crazynate: If you didnt notice, that link is an advertorial, for a mfg of e-cigs /shy

To quote my post from an old thread on this subject:

These have been standard in NJ and a couple of relative States for a while. It's law & all. The taste is definetely noticeable at first, but after a while it becomes pretty insignificant. However, if the cig goes out and you're forced to relight it, eghh it never tastes the same. And they do go out quite often, if you ignore you cig for 30 secs or more you pretty much doomed. In NJ they used to have a thick black line above the UPC barcode signifying "Fire Safe Cigarette", I believe now they've switched over to the "FSC" label.

At first I didn't like the difference in taste, it pissed me off more that I would have to re-light them if I didn't take a drag that often.

However, my friend grew to like them since they would go out when he was nodding. When he came out of the nod, he could just re-light it. This greatly reduced the number of burns in his jeans.

I hate the FSC's. The reason I can tell the difference is for some reason Seattle has been flooded with Marlboro's from Vietnam, and people sell them for $3 a pack where American Marlboro's at the store in Washington state cost more than $7. The Vietnamese Marlboro's are not FSC and the American ones are, and the Vietnamese ones taste 100% better. I have no idea how these smokes are getting into the country tax free; must be a black market thing. $25/carton $3/pack

Finally another person who likes cigarillos! No one ever knows what they are.

well come to Seattle and make your way to 12th & Jackson (Chinatown/International District) and there's an Asian lady thats out there every day sellin' cartons of these Vietnamese Marbs for 25 a pop ;D

Theres a place near my apartment called the Tobacco Depot that sells cigs for really cheap and without the FSC protection.

I'm sure they are breaking some kind of law or will be eventually, better go buy all the cartons you possibly can if you are a smoker.

I don't use tobacco that often unless I'm high and have a random craving for some snuff or a cig. I honestly haven't noticed a difference in flavor in any of the FSC cigarettes that I've smoked.

I have noticed that the cigarettes only go out when they are left alone and hardly have any tobacco left. Seems to be just like the old cigarettes, maybe they were.

^ I guess I don't smoke as much, I checked the last pack of cigs I bought and they were FSC though. The ones that burned out could have been the older ones more than likely. I've asked all my friends who smoked and they had no idea about the FSC and didn't notice anything different when they were brought on the market, maybe because they didn't know. Ignorance is bliss...

This FSC bullshit is pissing me off. I have reverted back to filling my own cigarettes to avoid this. I stopped when the Michigan tobacco tax went through the roof, but tobacco companies started labeling their bags of tobacco as "pipe tobacco" to avoid the tax, so I can get a 1lb bag for 15 bucks. It's not the best tobacco, but it's good enough.

This fire safety paper tastes so disgusting and it's been making me sick. I can no longer smoke a whole cigarette because of how light headed and nauseated I get when smoking it. Some gas stations and stores have packs of non-FSC cigarettes lying around still, so I would suggest looking for them. It says right above the barcode "FSC" if it has it, so it's easy to spot. Also, if you hold the cigarette on an angle, letting the light hit it right, you can see the bands of darker paper on the cigarette. Those are the fire safety sections. If your cigarette doesn't have those bands, then you're good to go.

Regardless, I suggest you all start filling your own. You can buy the tubes that have filters on the end (2 dollars for 200), get the little 10 dollar device that you pack the tobacco in and put the tube on and slide to fill it, and ask your local smoke shop for tube tobacco. It's relatively cheap, and don't be put off if it says "pipe tobacco." Brands like Criss Cross and The Good Stuff are labeled pipe tobacco but are in fact NOT pipe tobacco.

Cigs have a lil niche in my life. But after reading this thread it made me think about Cigars, man i haven't had a good cigar in a long time.. I think i'll go pick me up a good CAO Gold cigar from the smoke shop 2night and a nice bottle of scotch.. (mmm' my pops has a bottle of Blue Label in his liquor cabinet too!)
