Anyone been in the French Foreign Legion?

Im thinking of joining because the pay is amazing!
You get £3567 a month in your first year if you work overseas (abroad)

So im definatly up for that!

when you weigh it up against the work you do and thje danger you face, its not as much as you think it is.

before you go, think of the harsh physical regime and the even harsher dicsipline methods.

Surely it wont be much different from any other army though? Just alot better pay

yesd, it is differant from any other army. i suggest you do a good six month study on the legion before you even think about joining. read some books written by ex soldiers, like "the naked soldier" by tony sloane.

its a hard, sometimes solitary, austere life. yes, there are the rewards, but they can come at a high cost.

if you want to know more, pm me.:)

That 3500£ is actually euro's still not bad.
Don't forget in 2Rep you get jump premiums to .
Most people once they pass and with the highest points do go with 2Rep as they're most likely to see action, 13dble is second I think. Highest score gets first dibs on where they go, if that's still done.
Most forget the most interesting one to join is 2reg where you'd learn the most, you can do skiing/diving demining , hostage rescue etc..
Do think properly about it as if you had enough you just can't leave, you signed for 5 years, not 2 and I'm fedup of being mentally demolished and I want to go back to mummy.
If you do abscond they got a special MP unit that does/did(not sure they still exist) , retrieving deserters then you have the punishment if they catch up with you which won't be nice. Guy at school got let off because he lied about his age and got away with deserting because he was only 17.
You just want a few quid extra in your pocket join the TA.

I think this guy ^ knows what he's talking about. I considered it a few years ago, researched it, and realized it wasn't worth it to join. What country are you in? Why not just join your own respective military?

what do you need to know ? frankly, i wouldnt know where to start when it comes to the legion being differant from any other miltary regime, or, any other organisation that employs/enlists.

there is no appeal in the legion... what you sign up for is what you get and, you had better be prepared for it.

i could say "why should i give you a head start ?" but to be fair, the shit is gonna break you if you dont prepare. the physical stuff is just the beginning, youd better have the language down first, that will make things a whole lot easier.

the legion has a "mystique", one that enarmours men from all over the world, men of ALL kinds. that includes hard core crims. the only thing they wont let you in for is capital crimes or drugs. or, homosexuality.

thats right, the legion runs the show its own way. to the point where you become "la legiuon", in other words, it is your brotherhood, your family, your homeland. hence the term; "LEGIO PATRIA NOSTRA", the legion is my fatherland.

you will be fully expendable to the nation of france. marriage and or significant others are frowned upon. you will be the first in and the last out of any situation you are asked to engage in. every legionnaire will see combat.

the "machismo" of the legion is just as legendary. captain danjou, the father of the legion, gave this motto; "the legion dies, it never surrenders !" "you are not a legionnaire until you have filled your boots with your own blood !" are edicts that will be drilled in to your very being.

being a legionnaire is not a career, it is a way of life. after you do become one, you are no longer of your own nationality, when someone asks "where are you from ?" you reply "je suis un legionnaire..."

any questions ?

It seems much more alluring than any US armed forces for some reason. I'm sure you would meet some interesting people and push yourself also. I am not one for 'Join the Army' but if I was I would look into this instead.

Peace,
Seedless

The purpose of the Legion was to remove disruptive elements from society and put them to use fighting the enemies of France. Recruits included failed revolutionaries from the rest of Europe, soldiers from the disbanded foreign regiments, and troublemakers in general, both foreign and French.

Thats me! US wont let me serve so maybe there is a chance here

there are more than a few fugitives of justice in the legion. some are there merely to enhance there criminal potential. all i can say is, if you are a fugitive, you wont get offered citizenship until that is cleared up.

or, unless, you get wounded in battle like i did, then you become french by blood spilled, not by blood inherited.

i had no axe to grind with my country before i left. rules have been tightned now, so if you have commited capital crime, or have a drug offence against your name, you wont get in.

they will also ask you if you are homo. if you say yes, you will be dragged to the gate and given a hiding to within an inch of your life. but that will be your own fault, should have done your homework.

I don't advocate joining any military force; but if I were going to join any, it would definitely NOT be the French Foreign Legion.

If back-breaking military grunt work is what you desire, have you considered enlisting in the USMC as 0300 (infantry)? IMO it would be much less shady, more benefits, pay isn't as good but the people are higher quality. That's a big deal, man; if you're gunna be fighting, you want to be in the shit with the highest-quality people around. Additionally, the M16A2 is a superior service weapon to those used by any other military. If I were to go into battle, I would want Marines to have my back and my trusty M16 in my hand. That's just my opinion, though.
Yeah but I is a troublemaker
