Basic Drug Discussion should be called Harm Reduction Questions and it should only be for Questions - Questions about Harm Reduction.

There should still be a Basic Drug Discussion, but it should be for Basic Drug Discussions. A place where people can Basically just have Discussions about Drugs.

The reason I say this is because, under the current nomenclature, newcomers are being misled into having Basic Discussions about Drugs and then some guy is all like "sorry guys, but Basic Drug Discussion isn't for Basic Discussion of Drugs - it's for Harm Reduction Questions. If there were some place for your Basic Drug Discussion I would send it there, but there isn't so thread closed."

I figure my proposal would rectify the following issues:
1. Freeing up Basic Drug Discussion for Basic Drug Discussions.
2. People would no longer be misled into thinking that Basic Drug Discussion is a place where they can Basically have a Discussion about Drugs.
3. Anyone with a question related to Harm Reduction would see Harm Reduction Questions and go there, instead of Basic Drug Discussion, which will now tilt more towards Basic Drug Discussion rather than Harm Reduction Questions, what with there being a more suitably titled place for that now.

Thoughts?

I think a lot of the non-harm reduction stuff in Other Drugs might go into Drug Culture. Although a dedicated Basic Drug section for each major drug type would also create an obvious home for non-harm reduction Other Drug material. I agree though that genuine harm reduction stuff is getting lost in the clutter sometimes.

Makes perfect sense to me. My tweaker social thread probably isn’t fit honestly. I’ve been confused (I guess) about what exactly belongs in that forum too.

I agree with pretty well everything said so far. Why doesn’t a harm reduction oriented site have a harm reduction forum at the very top of the list? Or at all? I have an idea or two for harm reduction threads listing categories of information, agencies, and resources that could be repeated by our geographies (Canada I have of a grip on enough to start the project) by country.

I actually don’t know which forum I would put this in, now that I think about it.

Uh...because the WHOLE SITE is about harm reduction? I kid, somewhat. There's truth in the comments here that the forum names and layout may have some confusion for newer members. Though, after two decades, we've gone through a few forum merge-split-renames and this is where we currently are. This is not to say 'this is it, deal with it' but this is where we are today. We can evolve further, but any such changes to forum naming, layout, or overall site content really needs to also be grounded in stats and facts. For stats, we lost a lot of our forum activity reports when we jumped to XF, but we're still working on regaining the means to see which forums get the most traffic, etc. As for facts...we have a few voices in here that indicate our current state can be less than clear. Chances are there are more than just these few who feel this way, but that's tough to measure. The other half of that statement is we have how many active members, participating in the forums and not showing concern? And, we do have a good staff who either foster and nurture new threads in their forum OR move them to a more appropriate forum as required, which ensure the discussion can get the right engagement. So, the current state is working, no? Anything can be improved, so keep putting up these insights and ideas, just recognize we may not act on them if we don't see the justification. The push back on that last statement is there ARE things we won't see because we're so ingrained with the site we won't notice such things and NEED them pointed out to us, so yeah, please tell us.

we should have a basic drug FAQ.

All the FAQs on this site were built and maintained by members. The general evolution is someone starts a thread with that intent, everyone else chimes in with input, then someone (usually the OP who was interested in having the FAQ to begin with) takes all the input and feedback and puts together a completed new thread to be the FAQ.

What's stopping you?
