Focalin XR (dexmethylphenidate) - first time dosing information

This is my first time with any ADD pill.

I got 2 Focalin XR pills that are light blue with NVR D5 engraved on it.

How long does it take to feel the high? What does the high feel like? How long does the high last?

How many of these NVR D5 pills should I take? My friend said two.

Should I snort or swallow?
 
Focalin (dexmethylpehidate) is just the dextro-isomer of methylphenidate (a.k.a. Ritalin) and according to wikipedia is twice as potent.

So since it is an XR preparations I'd say start with 5mg or 10mg oral preferably the lower as it is a lot easier to take more than untake some.

I don't know what the nasal availability is for methylphenidate. Furthermore depending on how the sustained release is formulated it could have literally no effect.
 
I have decided to take 1 5mg pill and my friend will too. Should I not eat for a few hours before taking them?
 
Focalin XR uses a bead-release mechanism to allow it's extended delivery, e.g. Focalin XR 20mg would (in theory) pan out to a dose of 10mg, then around three hours later, another dose of 10mg. This is when taken orally. If snorted, assuming the beads are crushed well, in the example above, it would be roughly the same as snorting 20mg-worth of Focalin IR.

I don't know much about BA and that (I wish I knew more, really) so don't take me on my word with the eating but it seems to slow down the onset slightly. I always recommend eating while on stimulants though, and I'm not saying this is a fact or anything, but you might get the effect sooner if you don't eat beforehand, though if you choose to sniff it eating shouldn't affect it much. I don't think it does anyway.

I recommend eating a light meal before taking the pill, as stimulants such as Focalin will suppress your appetite so you probably won't want to eat during the experience. Eating an hour or so before won't mess with the absorption of the pill.

I don't recommend snorting it just because its your first time.
 
But since it's 5mg I feel like I won't feel anything. Everywhere on the internet it says people take 20mg+ ritalin on their first time.
 
Snorting the XR formulation is unpredictable at best. You can always take more later on, but if you take it all at once and have a bad reaction you won't be able to do anything. If you take a low dosage the first time, this insures you know your reaction to the drug.

Always start low and then work your way up from there. It's entirely possible that won't feel anything from 5mg, but then again, you may have a sensitivity to stimulants and 5mg may be more than enough. The only way to know for sure is to start low and work your way up.

Back when I didn't have a tolerance to stimulants, 10mg methylphenidate was enough, and I could feel effects from 2.5mg of dextroamphetamine. These are very low doses.

Also, I've noticed that snorting the XR (I was on 20mg) is different than snorting an equivilant amount of IR-formulated dexmethylphenidate, as has been stated unpredictable. Your best bet would be to take it orally the first time. Oral dexmethylphenidate seems to have more or less the same effect as nasal, just longer to hit of course, though the trade-off is a longer lifespan.
 
I just wanted to add some experience, not opinion. Snorting Focalin XR is not a good idea. I crushed up one 5mg really well, and up it went. I didn't really feel much. Slight euphoria but not like speed or even coke. About 20 min later did another 5mg. Started to feel a little excited, couldn't get an erection and had strange thoughts. 20 min later started on 3rd and got really anxious. Had to vomit, felt hot. Waited abut an hour and finished the 3rd. Couldn't stop walking around. Did a 4th 5mg and finally hit a nice euphoria. Things that normally were boring were interesting but it only lasted about 30 minutes. Urge to redose was great. Did 5th 5mg and had really bad problems. Numb face, hands, weakness, dizziness, vomiting, uncontrollable body temp, insomnia, almost called 911. This was my first time taking it so I had zero tolerance. The reason why I say it is not a good idea is because it took so much just to get where I wanted to be and when I went over there was no going back. From now on I will only use orally as directed. If you have to blow that much powder just for such a mild high you are risking too much. DO NOT SNORT THESE THINGS PLEASE!

...you just set yourself up for disaster and could've prevented most of those negative side effects.
Smaller mg pills are gonna contain more binders and fillers so more powder is needed to get high (I have 25 mg xr's-logically this is going to be more potent than your 5mg). Cocaine only takes a little "bump" to be felt but this drug is different in that more is going to be required to get a good high-just accept it if this is a buzz you're after. IMO doing say 15-20 mgs at once then waiting is much more effective than doing little 5mg bursts because by the time you're doing the second 5mg the first is already wearing off...
If you didn't eat anything or if you were doing too much movement you're just asking for nausea as I've done way more than you with no tolerance and been fine in my stomach; I was lying down. One time though I went to P.E at school on it and after jogging threw up into a trash can lol
Numb face and hands could be prevented by moving your arms or rubbing your face-get the blood running, as this is a vasoconstrictor. Plus focusing on a task helps curb anxiety during and after the peak instead of staring into space or freaking yourself out. Insomnia (as with most stimulants) is to be expected especially within six hours at least, after dosing...you say you had uncontrollable body temperature? Where you constantly checking it with a thermometer? LOL hot flashes happen on these drugs.
It's perfectly possible and fairly easy to obtain a recreational high though from snorting focal in though...if done right.
