Cocaine flakes

I know people around here call good cocaine flakes, well they actually call flakes cocaine that is 'uncut', or at least not cut by themselves. Of course it is cut, even before it gets in my country.

But now I was wondering, I've been doing some research on purification, and I came across an article about how to 'make' flakes, it seems to be a special method in a pan on the fire where you actually get multi layers of flakes, instead of just powder crystals.

Now my question is, what is this, those flakes? Are it just very large crystals? And does it have any advantages? In taste/sniffing/effects? Or does it just look different/better for some people
 
I cant seem to find the manual anymore, lol! I'm not sure but I think I saw it in 'The Pleasures of Cocaine' of Adam Gottlieb, but seeing as you cant view the entire book on google, but only pieces, I can't verify
 
pure cocaine is described as having an opaque "fish scale" look when it's not compressed into a brick for instance.

as you said the appearance of the cocaine is going to be down to the quality of the synthesis; there is no talk of that here which is why this thread is being closed.
