fizz,smoke/but turned prp/blk immediately???

okay, someone please help me out here. i have read other posts concerning this topic, but have not be lead to a credible source. i have tested a pill (candy cane) and it turned dark purple/black almost instantly. however, it also fizzed violently and ALOT of smoke was emitted.
WHAT I NEED TO KNOW
even though the pill i tested did indeed turn black almost instantly, whats up w/the fizz and smoke??? Can this be DXM or just a reaction???

According to the dancesafe info, the situation is as follows:
