Heroin First time shooting.. Long time OC user.

There is no way of knowing how much heroin would be acceptable to inject. This is simply because we have no idea how potent the heroin is. Only you can know based on your tolerance.
Once you acquire this knowledge, you will know how much you can handle. The best advice is always to start small and work your way up to determine this. Remember, you can always do more but you can never do less.
I would say half a bag is a good starting point. Howeer, 60mg of oxycodone insufflated is not too large of a tolerance. You should definitely snort the heroin first. Whatever gets you to a good enjoyable high, then shoot half of that dose. This is the safest way to begin injecting heroin.
HOWEVER, for the sake of harm reduction I must advise against starting to IV heroin. The needle is a whole new addiction all in itself. If you get hooked, you will be battling with it the rest of your life. Have you ever tried plugging? This will give you the closest high to IV without all of the complications and dangers.
I strongly advise starting with another ROA before jumping straight to IV.

However if your are set on injection, testing each new batch of drugs by snorting is indeed your best bet as you have slightly more room for error. Then you can be more certain of cutting down that dose for injection.

Im sorry this is not what you want to hear, but Don't shoot it. Please... once you do your life is going to spiral downward so fast. I know from other people and this site. Stop while you can , and before you actually do it

Insert the needle under the skin then pull back the plunger slightly created a slight negative pressure inside. Continue to advance the needle slowly until you puncture the vein which will be indicated by a spontaneous flash of dark blood. Stop advancing, register, release the tourniquet if used, and slowly but steadily push the shot. Stop if resistance is felt or you get a burning sensation at the injection spot or in your peripherals.

You really should take the advice, you really would enjoy the heroin snorted/plugged/ect.
But I know the feeling, that desire to feel that rush or euphoria. So if you are set on injecting, please read the links that amapola posted. You really should have somebody else inject it for you the first time. It takes practice and experience to get good at injection and watching somebody else hit it for you help tremendously. If you keep poking at your veins trying to hit it and miss countless times, many complications could arise. I've been there and I gave up trying until I was exposed to it countless times with my experienced friend. Then it became like tying my shoes, so easy.
Heres all I can try to advise typing over the internet. Also know that there are online guides with pictures/drawings instructing correct/safe injection techniques:
Slowly insert the needle (with the bevel facing upwards) above the vein, angled in the direction the vein is traveling.
Insert it at a 30 degree angle with your arm, almost like the needle is parallel with your arm. You don't want it stick it down too deep because you will simply slip through the other side of the vein and run the risk of hitting an artery.
As you are inserting the needle pay attention to how it feels. When the needle has successfully entered the vein it should feel like it is suddenly sliding in a little more easily. If you are using a dull needle (use a new one every time!) you should actually feel it "snap" as it pushes through the vein wall.
You can also pull back on the plunger ever so slightly as you are inserting the needle and as as soon as it is in a vein some dark red blood will pull back. Simply stop, and pull back on the plunger more and register to make sure. Once you know you are in the vein and have successfully registered blood, start pushing the plunger down. You shouldn't feel ANYTHING as you inject the heroin if you are in fact in the vein correctly. If you feel a stinging sensation, stop injecting immediately. This is usually a sign that you are missing and the solution is just collecting under your skin.

There are so many other things we could advise about such as what happens when you hit an artery, warm compresses after a missed shot, abscesses, etc.

If I ever started with heroin, I would definitely start by snorting it for a long time before even thinking about shooting up. Like the poster above me stated & others in this thread, just snort or plug it if you wanna get as close to what it feels using a needle.

^ Exactly, it is unlike anything you've ever felt. It's incredible. Thats why it is advised against. You would have enjoyed snorting or plugging it because you didn't know what IV heroin feels like.
When you get into IV, those other routes of administration will pale in comparison. They just wont cut it. You will come to realize that snorting no longer gets you high (except in high doses which will probably be too expensive) and you're only goal will be chasing that rush.

^this. you can plug it before you shoot it. it adds one more step between you and the needle, and one less step up the seemingly never ending stairs of tolerance.
