Synopsis:

A hilarious comedy about frustrated waiters, stingy tippers and dicey food, Lions Gate Films' WAITING... stars Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris and Justin Long as young employees battling boredom at Shenanigan's, a generic chain restaurant.

A waiter for four years since high school, Dean (Justin Long) has never questioned his job at Shenanigan's. But when he learns that Chett, a high school classmate, now has a lucrative career in electrical engineering, he's thrown into turmoil about his dead-end life. Dean's friend Monty (Ryan Reynolds) is in exactly the same boat, but he couldn't care less. More concerned with partying, Monty is put in charge of training Mitch (John Francis Daley), a shy new employee. Over the course of one chaotic shift, Mitch gets to know the rest of Shenanigan's quirky staff: Monty's tough-talking ex-girlfriend, Serena (Anna Faris), Shenanigan's over-zealous manager, Dan (David Koechner), and head cook Raddimus (Luis Guzman), who's obsessed with a senseless staff-wide competition known only as "The Game"...

I have worked in restaurants on/off for over 5 years now (in several different restaurants, most of them being generic nation-wide chains) and I really really really can't wait for this movie to come out :D I'm sure a lot of people will find it funny, but those who work in restaurants will especially appreciate all the humor. The commercial alone makes me giggle :D Not to mention that it stars Ryan Reynolds and he always plays really funny characters!

Having worked in the restaurant industry also, I love movies that give an inside look into the business and drama. There is nothing that compares to waiting tables, and it's impossible to describe to someone who has never done it. Dinner Rush was a great independent movie about the restaurant biz that came out a few years ago. I will definitely be checking this one out too.

I waited tables for 5 years. I don't think its that hard to describe it to some1 who has never done it. I mean in the end, its just serving food in a timely manner.

I think it's one of those things you can't fully appreciate until you've done it. It certainly involves a lot more than just serving food. But that's just my opinion.
 
^I agree. Waiting tables can be a subtle art not to mention it being a total emotional rollercoaster.

I would like to see this film. :)
 
I like Ryan Reynolds, so I might give this movie a go. but the idea of it being based around something I've never done or never want to do is odd.

I'm sure this will appeal mostly to people in the waiting "industry" though

I beg your pardon if I am interpreting your quote wrongly, but this is why you have no concept of what a pain in the ass waiting tables can be and why this profession deserves a bit more respect that these people typically get.
 
I have no doubts in my mind waiting tables is a pain in the arse, that's why I would never do it. I'm certain waiters cop a lot of shit from annoying customers and I wouldn't be able to put up with their crap.

needless to say, Ryan Reynolds is funny, so I will watch this movie and see.

I agree, but on that note, you can't fully appreciate anything until you've tried it. It does involve more than just serving food. You have to be an excellent multi-tasker and actor to do it good, but at the same time, its just waiting tables. Its not an art, thats why only college student and and pregnant women do it. ;) j/k. But seriously, unless you work at a 5-star resteraunt (I have a buddy that has a Master's in finance, but makes more money waiting tables at the nicest resteraunt in town [not that odd for him to come home looking like a stripper with $600 on a Friday]), its barely worth the pain of working your ass off for a 10 hour shift, and with 5 min to get cut, a 30-top of old ladies from Thursday night bingo walks in, and you know they tip in change. . . . in the end though, this is really a discussion about this movie, and I saw another preview today that made it look even better.

I watched this guys show on MTV for the first time the other night and I am completely shocked that this kid has his own show and people watch it.

it's totally ridiculous, easily the most pathetic show I've ever seen. the kid is so damn annoyingly unfunny.
 
While from the ad it did not seem to be a very high calibre movie it did remind me much of working hospitality.

I always worked kitchen though, and I hope they include some of the rivalry that takes part between the front of house staff and the kitchen.

For instance I remember when it was busy and waitresses were getting on our case about how long meals were taking we would always give a standard answer - half hour/forty-five. Used to piss them off righteously...

Thank fuck I'm out of hospitality, another five years of that and I would probably have killed someone..

While 2 of my five years as working hospitality was in McDonalds the other 3 was at Lone Star, a restaurant, and I can see many parallels between the trailer of this film and my everyday life.

It's so the 'ten second rule' though :)

I used to have a blast at resteraunts. One time I put a smiley face of whip cream on this girl's butt, and she didn't even notice, and she went out and waited on her tables. lol, she had a big butt too. Me and my buddies would poke holes in the little creamers with our nametags and shoot them on each other (what would Freud say?). Or waitline baseball with a broom and a butter packet. A good hit and it explodes everywhere. Who used to go in into the freezer and do whip its? I sure as hell did.
 
I'll watch it. Dane Cook is in it too. If this movie isn't a laugh a minute,it's not the fault of the cast.
 
I think I'll try and see this one. Sounds like a good plot, and anyone who's waited tables knows that there can be some pretty memorable times on the job, good and definitely bad. Plus with LIONS GATE on the picture, it's gotta be good. I generally love Lions Gate films.
 
I work in a restaurant and just saw this movie. I thought it was freakin' hilarious. My boyfriend did too, he's back of the house, i'm front. It really did seem to capture many of the worst aspects of serving food. I hope that all those ignorant people who don't tip, bitch about everything, etc, see this film and can recognize themselves and learn something.

The cardinal rule: "Don't fuck with people who handle your food!"

I love it!
