I never seen a david lynch movie before.

and i dont lack the ability to understand imagery, symbolism, interpretation of different shit, analyzing the ideas, etc.

Everybodys like, what you only like to watch "light" movies, youre ignorant

But no, its just that when you got enough trouble, drama, and plenty of ''thought provoking'' shit going on in real life, you really dont give a fuck about seeing a movie thats just gonna remind you of all your bullshit, you watch movies as a escape you know?

So even though ive seen alot of movies like Donnie Darko, etc. i dont like watching that shit on the regular.

And cuz of that I never got into david lynch or shit like that, but i was at somebodys house, and they put on this movie.

I dont even know what to say. It was so bizarre so disturbing and haunting. It fucked with me hardcore. the images are burned in my brain, it was insane.

So much freaky shit in there,and the imagery especially.

the movie was confusing, a little, i guess cuz i aint seen the TV series and i heard youre supposed to before u see the movie.

But not too much that i couldnt enjoy it, i could still follow it.

Some of the shit really stuck with me,

Especially the music they are playing in the bar in Canada. the psychedelic sounding shit. its almost evil sounding.

And the song "Questions in this world of blue" was probably the saddest song i ever heard in my life.

Im glad i cant remember how either of them goes otherwise i would have them stuck in my head haunting my brain.

Well, whats yall's opinions on this movie?

i really enjoy this movie (and much more than others like lost highway)
there is much more to my opinion than that but i have not the time for it right now
so im going to add a poll and revisit later

I am a huge David Lynch fan but FIRE WALK WITH ME is not a film I liked at all & its generlly considered at the bottom of the Lynch cannon, just below DUNE. Forget FWWM & rent the firsr 2 seasons of the TWIN PEAKS TV series.

If you want to see 2 great Lynch films check out MULHOLLAND DRIVE & BLUE VELVET. My personal fave is MULHOLLAND DRIVE but must Lynch fans prefer BLUE VELVET.

it's practically impossible to decouple the discussion - they are inextricably linked.

the movie can certainly be watched in isolation but it will probably make more sense (to the extent it can ) if you've seen the series (of which the movie is a prequel).

Fire Walk With Me is best viewed AFTER seeing the entire Twin Peaks TV series...otherwise you will just ruin what is one of the greatest TV shows ever made for yourself.

I saw the movie only. And the movie is what i was curious about.

I dont know any people who i could talk about the film with. So i posted here. it aint gonna help if its about the TV show, i dont care about the TV show to be real with ya. maybe ill get around to it someday but, who knows.

The same goes for anybody saying "well it aint his best film" - Thats cool but i dont care.

I aint a movie critic or a movie reviewer, and i aint really about dicsussing the cinematogrophy of it, the technical movie nerd details and shit.

Its just that the movie fucked with my head and i was looking for a place to talk about the plain old regular ass person movie watchers view of it, if that makes sense.

So everybody saying, oh watch another movie or oh, watch the TV series, is missing the point.

I do understand the points yall are making about seeing the TV show too but like i said, I never did and the movie stood by itself fine for me.

SPOILERS BELOW

I thought it was interesting to see the events that led up to the FBI investigation which took place during the TV series. I was also kind of pissed they had to recast Donna.

Frankly, I'm impressed you enjoyed the movie without watching the series first--I'm not entirely sure I could have done the same. However, I can't really go back and change the order I watched things. My problem with watching the movie on its own is that you don't really know the characters, or the fact that everyone thinks Laura Palmer is the stereotypical girl-next-door type who can do no wrong, when in reality she has some serious issues from being abused by a family member, a penchant for violent sexual encounters, and a cocaine habit.

That said, this movie was definitely twisted and disturbing in true Lynchian fashion, which I like. And as I said, I like how it filled in the events leading to Laura's murder which, in turn, helps you understand the show better. It's been a while since I've seen this flick and could probably use another viewing.

All that aside, Lacey, you really need to stop trying to limit the discussion in every thread you start. People will have different things to say and just because you don't want to discuss technical aspects of the film, doesn't mean that others want the same thing. Same thing with relating the film to the television show--the movie was made for people who were fans of the show, so it's quite hard to look at them as two seperate entities.

That said, if you enjoyed the movie, I highly recommend the show to you. It is by far one of the best TV series I have ever had the pleasure of watching. When I first viewed it a couple years ago it had been a long, long time since a mere television show creeped the shit out of me.

i have never watched more than parts of a couple episodes of the television series and the movie seemed to operate fine as a stand-alone. i still think Mullholland Drive is the only Lynch movie where he got everything in his style to work. Fire Walk with Me was very good, though.

communication is a two way street - one person's missed point is another's poorly made point...

i don't think anybody here is telling you you have to see the tv show. it's just that the answer to just about any TPFWWM question is answered by the show.

it's nearly impossible to discuss one without referencing the other and it's not clear to me the value of a thread which demands a discussion in isolation.

I thought Chris Isaak totally ruined the first half hour "you're wasteing my time, and the time of the federal government" talk about wooden delivery. I felt it lacked much of the charm and offbeat humor of the series (smoked cheese pig anyone). It was entertaining and helped to flesh out a few details alluded to in the series. By today's standards it seems pretty tame, I definately prefer Mulholland Drive and Blue Velvet over this one.

I saw it with a friend who had seen the series and one who hadn't. The one who hadn't seen it forgot to take his Ritalin for a few days before, so instead of being just confused, he was confused and irritating. It's a decent film, still don't know what the kid in the white mask with long nose was about though (magic kid from trailerpark with dissapearing corn, but what's the significance?)

This made me laugh:

But still, i think it aint too ridiculous to ask that since its a thread about this movie/series and not David Lynch, for people to keep it to this shit and not just say "Watch mulholland drive man its better." or "i never saw this but man, ________ by david Lynch was really good tho" etc

So make a thread about that specific director to discuss all of his other non twin peaks shit if you want, but here can we keep it to the twin peaks deal

There IS a difference between a thread that is all about how they filmed the movie, oooh the lighting in that scene was great, the camera angle here was good, what kind of film did he use and exposure, etc.
and "what did you think of the movie?"

because to me its 2 different threads, the film school shit and the opinion on the actual STORY and MOVIE not the little technical parts that make up the whole.

How could you not understand the movie as a stand alone, it is juuuust coherent enough that you aint gotta have other shit to explain the story. well i dont mean :how coudl you NOT understnd it" because its freaky and bizarre and confusing yea. but i meant more of, i just dont see a problem with it and it seemed easy enough to take on its own to me.

I like it better anyways with the holes and questions it makes you more interested and wonder what happened then imagine for yourself and i think thats what he wanted people to do actually

like he never tells you what the blue rose means etc....

i definately think he was all about confusing people and making their minds come up with the craziest shit to fill in the empty parts
