I just saw The Life Aquatic and I really enjoyed it. I'm obviously quite a bit Anderson fan.. and it lived up to my expectations. Kate Blanchett was a good addition to Wes' posse, and Bill did a really great job at the role he played. I wouldn't consider Anderson's films extremely deep, but this movie is one of those that I think I could pick up on more things after a 2nd or 3rd viewing. I don't know how much of a chance many of the critics gave this one. A-

Loved it! Although it had a feel all its own, the film reminded me of a cross between "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "Bottlerocket". Bill Murry rocked as did William Defoe's, Owen Wilson's and Kate Blanchett's characters. Clever, silly, witty and rediculous with some great one liners.

I'll be seeing this one again.

Agreed, 4 stars.
Saw it last night, thought is was great and the soundtrack was amazing! There is a musician featured who does David Bowie covers in Portuguese; it's unbelievably good. Even if you dislike Wes Anderson movies, you need to see this one just for the score.

Big, big Wes Anderson fan here. Bottle Rocket remains one of my all-time favorites.

I haven't seen a film in the theaters in almost 6 months...I think this would be a proper talkie to break that streak with.

Wow. I guess I'm the only one who was just a little disappointed in the film. The acting was good (very good) but I thought the dialog/story line lacked "something" that the The Royal Tenenbaums had. I can't quite put my finger on what was missing though.

Not that the movie was awful. It was good. But I'd only give it 3 out of 4 stars. Worth seeing but not going to be added to my favorite film list.

I felt the same way for a few minutes but the more I thought back about it, the more I started to laugh again. I had the same reaction to "The Big Leboswski", which now I love. I definitely want to see The Life Aquatic again, and next time stoneder.

Stupid... I can understand the humor and why it's so likable but for me it was just stupid. Good acting though.

Too bad for you, I think you missed the point of it all. Life is stupid, people are stupid and we do stupid things, but life is not always in our control and sometimes stupidity will lead you by the hand into the mouth of enlightenment, even if just for a few fleetings moments, caught in the rapture of epiphany, we see that the only stupidity is in the thought that we are in control.

No you don't. At least not until Wes Anderson gets an editor and stops doing it himself. There were at least 30 minutes of crap that could have been cut. I thought that this movie was horrible.
