film: The Forgotten

Well, I've seen the preview for this film a handful of times now and I have to say that I am really curious to see it this Friday. I'm (cautiously) hoping for a true mind bender in the same vein as Vanilla Skies or The Sixth Sense. Here's a link to the trailer:

Anyone else out there have high hopes for this one?

Sounds like it could be interesting. Anything is better than the steaming piles better known as Vanilla Sky and the Sixth Sense.

I want to see it.. I hope they didn't use the only good parts in the previews.. that's all I've been seeing lately is CRAP

Had a free sneak preview pass (FSPP™) for this tonight.

REALLY REALLY REALLY good movie. I love M. Night and all, but he only DREAMS about making a movie like this. There were quite a few *actual* jump-out-of-your-seat "Gotcha" moments.

I still am tongue-tied when it comes to reviewing a movie without giving spoilers, so I will just stop here.

On my personal scale, I would give it 4.75 out of 5 stars.

Film: The Forgotten

If you haven't seen this yet, do yourself a favor and DON'T read about it or watch the trailer BEFORE seeing it. If you go into it not having A CLUE what to expect, it'll blow your mind.

Definately two thumbs up. My only critique is that I didn't like the boy or the mom enough. I think they really should have made the audience REALLY attached to the boy, and made the mom more likeable. I just wasn't IN LOVE with their characters enough. Throughout the movie I was more worried about figuring out what the fuck was going on then hoping for the reunification of the mother & son.

But as far as suspense and shit that makes you jump- I thought this was good.

Anybody else seen it?

This movie definitely falls into the "it was good but I feel no need to ever see it again" category. (other members of this category include What Lies Beneath , The Sixth Sense, and Contact )

Yes there were definitely some "make you jump" moments. I think my boyfriend strained my elbow he pulled on it so hard when the cop got sucked away.

I don't know though, it just wasn't a GREAT movie. It was sappy at the end. It could have been a lot creepier. The therapist's role could have been better explained. If the all powerful aliens can wipe out someone's memory, cant they paint over a little girl's drawings on the wall rather than doing a shitty job wallpapering over them?

Some of the editing was just plain shotty (the full blackout transitioning into the first scene in the police station).

It was scary and stuff, but at the end it just sort of left me feeling unsatisfied.

And the end was just garbage. Poof! She passes the test and things are miraculously back to normal.

Come on now, they could have done waaaayyy better than that.

I witnessed two events this weekend. The Forgotten and a buddy of mine vomiting and slipping in his own puddle of processed food. Personally,I give the vomit experience two thumbs up. There was action, comedy, drama(he didn't get up for a minute there) Now about The Forgotten. Damn. Where to start? This movie started off with good potential. Then it was like the writer and director went on a peyote binge for a week and came back to complete the film. The ironies of the movie itself are pretty funny. First, the obvious. Naming your movie The Forgotten when that's exactly what most people will want to do after seeing it. Second,a number of people were sucked(you'll have to see) How apt, being that this piece of shit sucked harder than Jenna Jameson and Paris Hilton competing with a Hoover vac. I amused myself by trying to make out animal shapes in the goo on the theater floor. I saw a bunny and a puppy!
So in conclusion,if I had a choice between watching The Forgotten again or watching Ron Jeremy getting a full body wax,I'd pick the latter. At least there would be a fucking point to the nightmare I was witnessing. Shame on you,Julianne Moore. You owe me a bj for this.

Interesting take on the movie. Perhaps in the future you could do us all a favor and save the porno comparisons and actually have useful examples as to why this movie was less entertaining than watching somebody vomit.

I loved this movie!!!

and on a side note, I love rollmodel36's review as well.
:) <good stuff!!

I don't agree with it, but I love rollmodel36's review as well. :)

I was kind of biased to love this film anyway. After Boogie Nights, I love Julianne Moore like nobody's business. I was so excited to see her as the lead actress in a film I couldn't wait to see it.

Having seen it....I have two thoughts: there were one of two ways it could have worked better: if they'd gone all Sixth Sense and made the threat completely implied, that would have been really creepy. Alternatively, once they decided to go for the "yeah, aliens" shit, they should have gone all out; let's see some psychic battle a la Dark City...instead, the climax kind of just petered out. We never did find out what makes Telly so special.

In other news, Ash was fucking hot...more of him please.

All in all, I enjoyed it, but it could easily have been a lot better...

It was a good movie but was nowhere near a dark city, it felt there there was not enough of everything. Not enough suspense, explanations and "not enough ending" if I could put it like that.

Alltho I had to say the car crash made me jump!

yeah dark city was awesome! this movie, was pretty crappy imo. it's been awhile since i saw it, but i think i left thinking there were a lot of plotholes. and it was a little ridiculous how they just sucked people into the air. by the way, this is coming from someone who loves sci-fi films.

i wouldn't watch this again.

^^^I agree with the sucking people into the air thing...when it happened to the guy in the cabin it worked because you didn't really know what had happened to him, it was all so fast. When it happened to the detective, it kind of looked hokey but was still effective because it showed that by this point they weren't so much worried about hiding themselves from Telly. The other times it happened though...really cheapened the movie IMO.

Actually, speaking of which, does anyone else think the alien would have been so much more effective if he was just a psychic projection and didn't have any physicality at all?

The movie was fun but skin deep. After the word abduction is implied rather early on, there are no more real twists. The car accident and the "sucks" are fucking hilarious. The end was far too abbreviated.
I would give it 2.5/5 for fun alone. :)
I was really hoping for some psychological explanation to creep in, but it never happened. :(

NICE! havent gotten this scared in a while. Maybe cuz i didnt expect much from it either...just saw this on DVD btw.;) OR maybe it was the huge surround sound system my friend had !

I just saw this movie this weekend, and I enjoyed it SO much. I think a good description of it is "A good M Night Shyamalan Movie" The first "OMG" moment is totally surprising, and done very well. I really enjoyed it. Best movie in a long time.

A freind of mine bought the dvd, and said it has multiple endings that you can choose from.

In his opinion, the ending they chose to show in theatres was the worst possible one :\
