It should be really good.

I hope my diehard catholic friend checks it out - if only to get him asking question's and thinking.

Whoever ends up playing Langdon, I hope it's not Russell Crowe. It doesn't seem like it would work to me, but then again I'm not exactly a fan of his.

Personally, I think I would look at someone like Liam Neeson to play the lead... but that's just mho.

^^ I agree, he would be fitting for the roll. Whoever did the casting is a jackass if they are really looking at Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe for the lead roll... did they even read the book???

"did they even read the book???"

With choices like that, I doubt it. Like you said, he's supposed to be an inteligent kind of guy, not the action hero type.

I'd love to see George Clooney or Harrison Ford play the male lead... as for the female lead, maybe Kate Winslet or Kate Hudson...

Was a great book and am in the process of reading it again... Digital Fortress and Angels and Demons by Dan Brown are also great reads.

If anyone is interested ABC did a special report on this:

ABC NEWS SPECIAL: JESUS, MARY AND DA VINCI:

Price: $29.95
Description: The best-selling novel The Da Vinci Code has sparked a vigorous debate by raising a number of provocative questions -- most notably, was the historical Jesus really a married man? Could he have even been a father? Do his direct descendants still survive today? In this hour-long ABC News special, "Jesus, Mary and da Vinci," Elizabeth Vargas explores these and other controversial theories about the lives of Jesus and Mary Magdalene, who some scholars believe was not a prostitute, as she is often portrayed, but rather Jesus' wife -- and perhaps even the mother of his child. The Da Vinci Code, a mystery novel that claims to be based in part on historical fact, contains claims that Mary Magdalene was Jesus' wife, that she fled Jerusalem following his crucifixion carrying their child - and that she was perhaps the legendary Holy Grail herself. In France, Jesus' descendants married into French royalty. This story, it is said, was long protected and perpetuated by a secret society of some of the most famous men in history, including Leonardo da Vinci and Sir Isaac Newton. Vargas travels to the Holy Land, Italy, Scotland, France and other locations around the world to investigate what evidence exists to support some of these extraordinary claims in an effort to separate fact from legend. Among those she speaks with are religion and art history scholars, as well as a Scottish aristocrat who says he thinks his family married into Jesus' bloodline in the 12th century -- though he assures Vargas that, if true, the blood line, "by the time it gets to me...will be very, very, very diluted."

I can understand where he's coming from (maybe).. but i like to own the books i read.. for some odd unexplainable reason.

I just finished Angels and Demons, and have decided Dan Brown is a kickass writer who's really done his homework. Can't wait to read the Da Vinci Code. I look forward to the movies coming out.

When I pictured Robert Langdon, I imagined him looking exactly like Indiana Jones, so naturally I think Harrison Ford would be good for the part. Russell Crowe??!! WTF?

watch out Passion of the Christ.. Gibson is about to be bitch slapped. (figuratively speaking of course)

Yeah Gibson was so wrong that Jesus got abused for a day and then nailed to a cross.

I recently watched "Jesus, Mary and da Vinci," It hasn't convinced me. It was very interesting though. I'd watch "The Da Vinci Code" if it came out.

Don't think that the only people who would see the movie are agnostics or atheists DD, I'm sure the majority will probably be christian/jewish. So if it does beat the Passion (which I doubt) It doesn't really mean anything. I don't think that this movie is going to make anyone denounce Christ or anything. Maybe It will even start more churchs and the lost gospels will become more popular reading material.

fyi some of the scrolls were badly damaged and some were direct contradictions to not only the bible but also the other secret gospels!

I have no problem with Christ. I have a problem with the historical distortions of christianity, which even in Gibson's "passion" are issues that are quite questionable when looking at historical evidence. But that goes back to the whole "anti-semetic" arguement again. Which is a discussion within itself.

The thing i loved about Da Vinci Code, is that in a mainstream fashion.. it brought up issues such as the Gospel of Mary... dead sea scroll.. lost gospels. It showed Christianity's roots in both a patriarch AND a matriarch. It showed where the powerful, through institutions, have taken a wonderful religion.. and given people such as myself, ten million things to bitch about.. that i would be much happier if they just never happened.

While i thought Gibson's movie was quite moving and powerful... i also think he knew damn well that violence, gore, and shock value sell. I know damn well that he used a prophets name and story in order to get rich. I also did not like the fact that he painted Pilate as a kind and compassionate man.

I'm very suspicious of the bit about the Jews vs Pilate bit... It's simply way too contrived, this elaborate charade which tries so hard to exonerate Pilate and blame the Jews. It serves such an obvious purpose, since by 100 the Christian-Jewish relationship had cooled towards hate but the Christians relied on the tolerance of Rome. And it doesn't match up with what we know about Pilate -- the man was IIRC recalled to Rome for excessive brutality, which took some doing!

My point is, Da Vinci Code is incredible.. b/c furthermore it shows where pagan traditions were stolen and incorporated, it shows how christian holiday "dates" were moved to match pagan holidays for converts.

It goes after the crap Constantine did to the bible, it ruthlessly attacks the motvies and actions of the Vatican.

It's exposing christianity at it's roots to the best of our ability. Which i think is a very enlightening and interesting religion. This crap they preach every sunday in trailers, churches, and on tv... what the average person considers to be christianity.. is nothing but embellishments, factual fallacies, changes made hundreds of years ago so someone could maintain a place of power... it's bullshit.

I'm not one to say whether god is real or not. And i find Jesus admirable. And there's alot of moral arguements througout the OT and NT i could debate and debate.. but the image of christianity's roots and what it was attempting to achieve before it got hi-jacked, by catholics and romans is something worthwhile.. and i think people need a mainstream way to have that shown to them.. without downright attacking their religion.

I do not feel Da Vinci Code brutally attacks christianity by any means.. just this political hogwash that's been added on throughout the ages. And the fact that it's done in a very mainstream fashion, with a plot and character development, explores art and architecture history... makes it all that more lovable.. to me anyways :\

DD - Well, much as I enjoyed the book, Browns claims with regards to Catholicism and Christianity are about as accurate as anything by Michael Moore.

Browns research is broad, but extremely shallow. He makes a lot of jumps that just don't follow.

I loved it as entertainment though. Enjoyed it so much I picked up his three other books.

There are elements to Angels and Demons which are too similar to Da Vinci Code - it's clear some plot points in DVC are completely lifted from the earlier work.
