Film : Final Fantasy Advent Children

One word.......****SUGOI****

The term Eye Candy does no justice for this film, try Gastronomical Explosion for the Visual Cortex and we may be close. The CG in this film completely overshadowed its predecessor IMO. The action was a fiesta of movement and grace, I had to rewind and slow-mo it in awe of what I had just seen. The water, hair, and cloth animators have truly outshone anything I have ever seen and helped to create a masterpiece.

As far as story goes, well, you need to know a bit about the background behind the computer games I believe, but I didn't ever play FF so I was left pondering the meaning and past which has lead to the events which unfold. So for me the story lacked quite a bit until the end, but for those FF aficionados out there it may tie-up some loose ends and put reason to rhyme.

I managed to snag this through unscrupulous means and the size of the AVI file was only 700mb but the quality is still excelent. There is a 4gig DVD version floating out there (actually it is planted out there and seeding ;) ) and I only wish that I had gotten that one because if the 700mb version was mindblowingly good I can only imagine what the 4gig version would look like, especially on my 9ftx6ft projector screen.

So......anyone else seen this baby yet??

Edit:- I can't seem to change the title on the front Film&TV page to say "Film : blahblah" Can the mods do this for me plz?

Cheers.

This a new FF film????

[Edit]

Ah, yes, here is the IMDB entry. Cool! I'll...uh...have to look under the proverbial couch cushions for this one.

This is going right to the top of my "must see" list.

The Spirit Within is one of my favorite movies. I watch it at least once a month and it's still just as thought provoking as the first time.

I don't know a single thing about the games, so hopefully this one won't have me too lost.

^It may help if you read a summary of Final Fantasy VII, as it looks like this picks up two years after that game finishes.

^^
I'm no good with roman numerals. does VII = 15? Has the franchise broken the 50 mark yet?

V + I + I = 5 + 1 + 1 = 7

Nah, I think they're barely into the double digits.

I was taking an 3d modeling and animation class when the first one came out... and I damn near pissed my pants when I saw it.

would love to see this as well. I can only imagine how beautiful it is.

Wow! Just finished watching it and it was worth the wait. Square has really outdone their self.

I haven't...uh...gotten this yet, and therefore haven't watched it. Would you say it's better than the Spirit Within? While, I really enjoyed TSW, I really wanted to see Square put out a movie based off the Final Fantasy universe as vast as it is. I was really hoping for a more medieval feel, but FF7 is close enough.

I have started to learn maya......this made me cry and want to quit using it. It is sooooo good that you just think..."why bother? These guys WHIP my arse 1000 fold" but then again, you realise that like 3 animators JUST worked on the hair, and 12 animators JUST worked on body movement etc etc with 4-10 animators working on everything from textures to backgrounds to special effects. And of course you are just thinking about the fact that you do everything yourself for one of your productions, so that makes me feel better.

But still, it is an animation lovers wet dream. I will get the DVD version fer sure.

Ahhhhh....I love this movie.=D

PS: I wish they would make a Hentai like this ;) LOL

If you loved Final Fantasy VII you will thoroughly appreciate this! If you didn't you'll still be amazed by the eyecandy.

Whoa! I had no idea about this. I got a big kick out if Final Fantasy VII so I'm pretty sure I'll like this, especially if its as pretty as everyones making it out to be. Was this/will this be released in theatres at all (on imdb it says 2004 but i dont remember it)? It sounds like it deserves to be seen on the big screen.

I watched this from the prospective of someone who played FF7 back in the day, and generally doesn't watch a lot of anime.

The plot makes absolutely no sense if you haven't played the game, and even if you have, it's pretty vauge, and sort of a waste of time. The movie is also sort of anticlimatic, and goes on for 10 minutes after what should be the conclusion.

With that said, the action scenes are amazingly detailed, and amon the best that i have ever seen. Too bad the rest of the movie is a waste of time though.

^Hmmm, hopefully I will disagree with you. :)

I grabbed this yesterday and was planning on watching it last night, but was dragged out to the bars instead. I think I'll be checking it out when I get home from work later tonight. I checked the file out a little just to see if the subtitles were working and how the quality was. Looks quite amazing at first glance!

Watched this last night...definitely lots of eye candy. I have to agree with ghettotastic that the plot would barely make any sense if you didn't know the story told in FF7. I think the story had potential but there were just too many holes.

I couldn't help but feel the entire thing seemed to be made up of pieced-together cut scenes without the game play in between that explained more of the story. Comparing this to the Spirit Within, Advent Children has next to zero character development.

It was still really cool to see a bunch of characters I knew from playing FF7 in a full motion movie. I was thoroughly entertained by this film, but it's not going to win any awards for story.
