I personally hate this film with a vengeance. I like most of those trashy 80's movies, and I even like most John Hughes films, but this? no. I just find the whole thing completely irritating.

Now, if you were asking about The Breakfast Club, that would have been a different story.

I love this flick. Probably one of the most quotable movies from the 80s. A wild fun silly hilarious romp. Pucker up, buttercup.

And yes, The Breakfast Club is better, by a nose.

Two reasons to hate this movie? Matthew Broderick. That guy is as bland as a bowl of Corn Flakes in warm water.

His "I'm so cool and adorable, you've gotta love me!" schtick got old after the first two minutes. I just wanted to punch him in the testicles.

I never saw the appeal of this movie, but then again I don't seem to be a fan of many teen american crap from the 80's either. I hated the Michael J Fox look when he did the Back To The Future's & all his hollywood mates tried to copy. White trainers, skin tight jeans & rolled up sleeves made them look like dildos instead of cool. This Broderick monkey is no better.

You youngsters are too young to remember this. But in 1988, world's worst vice-president Dan Quail cited Ferris Bueller's Day Off as his favorite movie in a pitiful attempt to "connect with the youth of America" or some such nonsense.

See also: Howard Dean citing "Jaspora" by Wyclef Jean as his favorite song in a 2004 presidential debate in an attempt to connect with minorities.

Good teen movies have to do one of two things. One is that they have to be realistic and capture the zeitgeist of the age. The second is that they must mock or be irreverant of the cultural norms of its day. Teen dramas will usually go for the first. Teen comedies will go for he second.
However, because the social norms and taboos of youth culture change so rapidly, teen movies very rarely age well. They can still be interesting from a sociological time capsul perspective but usually won't hit you in the gut like they did to audiences of the day.
IMO, teen dramas tend to hold up better over time than teen comedies because "unpopular boy/girl pines for popular boy/girl" tends to be a universal theme since time immortal. However, losing one's virginity for a guy is a lot less difficult these days than it was in 1980 which makes movies like Porkys seem a bit silly to modern audiences.
