Ayumi Hamasaki, 30, will sing the theme song for Hollywood film “Dragonball Evolution” which is based on Japan’s popular manga “Dragonball” series. Hamasaki will release an original song, “Rule,” for the live-action version film which will be released in Japan on March 13. The release date for the song will be announced later.

Hamasaki will perform the song in Japanese and it will be used in every local version of the film in more than 60 countries. In an official comment, Hamasaki said, “I hope both old and new fans of ‘Dragonball’ throughout the world will enjoy the film.”

i'm torn by that trailer. it seems to have taken all the fun out of the series, but then again it doesn't look as cheap as i expected it to.

edit: taking another look at that post and it dawns on me. goku is not supposed to be angry! :X

Eh...probably worth watching just once.

And Goku has been known to absolutely freak out on occasion.

^yeah but he's generally happy go lucky. he's "pure of heart". the tosser in the above poster looks like he's got an egg in his arse.

missed you, new. i hope all is well n swell for you mate.

He does look unhappy in the poster, you are right.

And things are going better than they could be going.:)

Who rated it one star when it hasn't even come out yet? Sure, it looks one star quality, but no jumping the gun. If you have seen it, prove it and explain why you gave it one star. Otherwise I'm taking the star away in a couple of days.

As prolific as that one star rating may be, no one has seen the movie so the rating has been removed. This will continue will ALL movies that haven't been released yet, unless you post actual proof that you have seen an advanced screening or have a time machine.

If you have a time machine and you are only using it to see movies months in advanced, your rating will become null and void because you are lame.

^so you haven't seen the terrible 1996 one?

check out the dragon ball appreciation thread in the lounge.

so, just having seen DBE, i'm surprised to say that it works.

it could've used another half hour for piccolo and some shapeshifters/talking animals and humour. it desperately needed talking/walking animal characters to help the sense of otherworldliness it needed for nonfans to appreciate, cuz the way it is, it can easily be mistaken for a weird superhero story set on the real earth, and as such it would appear incredibly weak.

despite this, it does retain much of the spirit of the story. goku and bulma were both spot on. yamcha was also pretty good (although he should have done some actual fighting). chi chi and roshi were a little different but they still were still recognisable (chi chi shouldn't be fighting so much).

it also really needed at least a walk in bit with krillin. he needed to be seen in the tournament or something.

3.5/5 (voted 3)

i sincerely hope they make the sequels.

^So would you say it incorporates the "good" things of the series like characters and story or is it a bunch of close ups of peoples faces looking like they are about to take a major shit mixed with a nonsensical plot?

I was a huge Dragonball (Z) fan when I was younger. I’m not one of those dudes that hang around the internet bashing this movie for Goku being too old, Roshi being beardless and having hair, etc. The original cartoon was poorly planned and quickly left its “Journey to the West” roots. I get that this is an adaptation inspired by the series. If I wanted to see the same characters the same way, I would just watch the cartoon again.

That being said, I didn’t think this movie was very good. Of course I saw it when it came out, my inner child begged me. HisNameIsFrank is absolutely right. This played out a lot like Power Rangers: The Movie. Actually I had fond memories of that movie when I was 8. I felt this was way too rushed. An hour and a half wasn’t enough. The fight scene at the end was too short. What I got from it was: The most badass dude that almost destroyed the Earth 2000 years ago was beaten by a teen’s move that he just learned like the day before.

I’m not knocking it because it was simply too short, but I felt it left a lot to be desired. I also thought the actor playing Yamcha was horrible. When we first hear him from above the hole, it’s like someone doing a bad cowboy accent. Don’t buy the Asian cowboy bit.

It did have some moments that were quite cool, though. The fight at the party around the car was pretty excellent. Other than that, I’d say this was on par with the Dead or Alive movie.

the former. :)

that anime, despite its closeness to the story, did a huge disservice with its painfully drawn out melodrama and artificial tension. the manga is brilliant.

yeah an extra 30 minutes would fix most of the problems methinks.

Yeah, he didn't fight at all too. His voice was silly but his attitude was pretty good.

i`m not gonna lie. this looks like a terrible hollywood remake of a classic and cliche anime i watched when i was a kid. they`re going to ruin it... i can tell already
