You all should know that the Ron Harlin's silly "Exorcist: The Beginning" is a revamp of an incomplete movie done by Paul Shrader.
If you don't, the basic story is that the producers were not happy with the psychological spin and the lack of marketability and so fired Paul Shrader who had already completed 95+ of the film and got Harlin to start over with the more action oriented piece that was released in theatres.
Well, since The Beginning flopped, the producers decided to spend a couple bucks (not much) on finishing Dominion and put it on a limited release. This never reached my hood so i found myself a copy over last weekend and checked it out.
Surprisingly, the story is practically identical. The kid, the dogs, the buried church are all there. It's just the quality of filmmaking in the Shrader version is MUCH higher IMO.
The only distracting and annoying aspect is the obviously little finance put in the completion of the film in that all the effects were sub standard, and some story elementsd lead to nowhere.
Despite being incomplete, i reckon it's far superior to the Beginning.
Anyone else had the pleasure?
