Description: Kurt Cobain About A Son is a rock and roll film like no other - an intimate and moving portrait of the late musician and artist Kurt Cobain told entirely in his own voice - without celebrity sound bytes, news clips, sensational tabloid angles or attempts to mimic a grunge aesthetic. Instead, filmmaker AJ Schnack has created something closer to an autobiography of Cobain - a profound first hand account of Cobain's own successes and failures, thoughts and experiences, allowing the audience unprecedented intimacy with a legendary figure in popular culture.

damn I really want to see this but I will prolly have to wait for DVD

I really want to see this as well. Nirvana have been my favourite bands for ages now.

Just saw About a Son

...The movie with Kurt Cobain interviews, along with some good music and film shots.

I'm actually just like him in one way - How we will be out with people, chillin, and some random fucker will ask "are you okay man" right out of the blue for no reason. It's kinda like "yea I was, not so much now, fuck off guy." I thought that was pretty cool. Who knew?

The movie reinforced a lot of what I already knew about him, and taught me a lot more, b/c everything was in his own words. I like that.

Anyone seen it? thoughts?

havent seen it yet, but i would love to.

maybe this thread should be in films and television though...

edit: yes! i was right!

completely different, though each offers insight into a gifted person.

thought the Tupac one was a little censored as to what he was all about before he died

I like the way Kurt describes how the media can really fuck up someone's life, and learning a bunch of random factoids, and his train of thought and stages of youth and sht. It's a first-hand account and not some speculative bullshit. "About A Son" seems to skip through large portions of his life, but then again, my girlfriend wouldn't have agreed to rent it with me if it didn't fit a certain timeframe.

I so wanna see it I wonder if they have it at blockbuster I shall see

i havent done any media about kurt in a good amount of years. but as a believer that courtney, that bitch, killed him ;) ... maybe ill see this

I totally agree about Courtney.... and since its Kurts own words, im much more interested in seeing it.

I don't believe that Courtney killed him.

Anyway, I saw this the other night and quite enjoyed it. I forgot how much I related to him as a person, but it also reminded me of what a hypocrite he was.

He talked about how much he despised his father for "giving up" on him. And there were also a few references to blowing his head off at certain stressful points in his life.

There were no revelations, but I thought it was a touching tribute to hear him in his own words. And the fact that the video was filmed where he grew up added an extra realness to it. The thing about celebrity figures is, they get so built up, that you almost forget that they're just people. This film brings it back down to earth again.

It did have some brilliant songs on the soundtrack too, which I was surprised about. I was expecting it to go down the same route as 'Kurt & Courtney', but fortunately it never. Young Marble Giants were on there, along with Butthole Surfers, and The Breeders.

3/5
