This movie made the front page of my paper because it sold out to all shows yesterday. Of coarse ,i live in Western NC where this movie is supposed to take place and was partially filmed in.

i'll probably just wait for video though.

I thought it was going to have more action, judging by the ads promoting it..... I did enjoy it, but found it to be rather long & slow..... would have preferred some more war action... even tho the American Civil War has been done to death recently & means nothing to us here in Australia

I was very surprised that they would choose a well known Aussie actress to play the role of a young woman in North Carolina during the civil war. Wtf? She's a great actress though so i am assuming she pulls it off very well.

I'm not a huge fan of Nicole Kidman, but IMO she does pull it off quite well indeed.... Also - I believe she was somewhate upstaged by lead support - Renee Zellweger (spelling?) whose dry wit lightened the movie quite a lot

Having been a really big fan of the book it seemed to me that the depth of the characters was a little watered down, especially in the case of Inman. But there's only so much that can be done over the period of a movie. Overall I was satasfied with the effort, & my wife really enjoyed it...

movies hardly ever live up to the book though. there are some that pull it off, but i think it is near impossible. thinking this way allows me to get not to disapointed when i see movies based on novels.

thanks for posting that review. i was see-sawing on going to see this in the theaters. i think i'll give it a go.

meh, so very very meh. i was really just unimpressed with this. the film *looked* very nice, and i thought it was well-acted, but the script was just dull.

i wasn't really interested at all, and it seemed so pretentious in its 'oh look we have a historical context' bs that i just became bored right away. beneath the surface i really didn't find much more than a well-acted but ultimately derivative romance.

eh, i so agree with the mehness of this. definitely not worth the effort. i wouldn't quite give it 1 star cos the scenery was at least nice to look and the acting wasn't that bad.... however as a movies go this really lacked heart.

after reading the book i watched it, and i loved it...however, if i hadnt read the book i doubt i would have gone to see it...

^^^jinx!
Just saw this on DVD and I absolutely LOVE it . Anthony Minghella takes me away again , just like when I first saw the English Patient *sigh*. I've also come to realize that I love hearing the sing-song, pronounced Southern accent...it comforts me.
Cold Mountain is a universal quest story about the yearning for hope and home that enables two lovers to deal with the harrowing menace and the senseless violence of war. Above all, Cold Mountain is a story of women -- abandoned, starving, and learning to rely only on themselves and each other.
Does anybody find it a bit hard to watch Nicole Kidman emote on screen when her witchy, wax-life face cant even make expressions ? LOL. It's so disturbing how different that woman looks here when I compare it to her past films! Too much plastic surgery , what a shame.:p
