It's based on a graphic novel by Steve Niles..

it looks like it would be pretty cool. I saw the preview in a theater. It will be released in October.

Here's the plot outline:

In sleepy, secluded Barrow, Alaska, the sun sets and doesn't rise for over thirty consecutive days and nights. From the darkness, across the frozen wasteland, an evil will come that will bring the residents of Barrow to their knees. The only hope for the town is the Sheriff (Josh Hartnett) and Deputy (Melissa George), a husband and wife who are torn between their own survival and saving the town they love.

Anybody else hear anything about it?

There were several people I know that saw lots of scenes at a Comic Con fairly recently; said it was pretty good. But, they also qualified it with the fact that they saw only individual scenes and have no idea how it will all fit.

Apparently, they remained fairly true to the graphic novel, tho' some characters had needed to be 'fleshed out' more.

~shrug~

I'm interested in seeing it, that's for sure.

To me this was a pretty good film. Nothing compared to the classics, but is good for right now. Still waiting to see how Saw 4 is.

i heard amazing things about this film. i will be catching this one.

a lot like 28 days later in the cinematography & the way the vampires acted/killed.

Yeah, they copied that movie a lot, Venom's insanely annoying screechy noise from Spiderman waaay too many times, and also EVERY FREAKING vampire movie ever made. Even the crappy ones! This movie was awful!

I saw this for free the night before it came out. We were so bored, my friend and I came up with 30 Shots of Night drinking game to entertain ourselves. One shot every time someone watches their friend get killed and just stands there staring at the vampire until they too are killed. Two shots every time someone breaks a cardinal scary movie rule. And three shots every time a vampire squealed, bc it's just so freakin annoying.

There were literally only three things I liked in this movie: Ben Foster, the awesome aerial shot of the vampire carnage in the town (stolen straight outta 28 Days though) and the fact that they wasted zero time trying to explain the vampires' backstory.

Negative stars.

Although I haven't seen it yet,I'm pretty sure Ben Harper, the musician,is not in it. I think you meant Ben Foster, the actor. If so,I agree. When I saw he was in the movie,I though that he might be the only redeeming quality in this film.

Fixed, I am terrible with names. Thanks!

i thought it was decent for a vampire movie
i did find several things annoying with it tho
the screeching of the vampires got old real fast
trying to slaughter the entire town on the first day of night seemed kinda dumb since they're your food source for the next month
josh hartnett is boring

the decapitations were great tho!

not to mention the utter waste of fuckin' blood.

i mean, wa-a-a-a-a-a-ste

then the main vamp is like "oh, it took us centuries for them to believe... let's kill them all so no one believes..."

what?

whatever.

still, it was a pretty okay ride.

I found this film mildly entertaining until the last 20 minutes. it's not that the ending was cliched (I don't remember seeing a movie where someone shoots up vampire blood), but the theory behind it was cliched with the whole sacrifice yourself to be the savior type deal.

I liked this movie a lot. I felt the cinematography was excellent and the way they portrayed an isolated town in the midst of a crisis was pretty spot on. Character development was mediocre except for the survivalist guy that had the dynamite. Can't remember anyone's name because for the most part they were forgettable characters.

Didn't realize there were subtitles until 3/4 of the way through due to the version we were watching. Can't help but feel like I missed out on some plot points, but I'm not sure that I like the whole vampire primal behavior but capable of complex communication plot point. And also the last part of the movie seemed extremely rushed.

I vote a 3.

i didn't really care for the movie. i'm not a huge vampire nut though. there were too many scenes that had me laughing where i shouldn't have been. i gave it a two because it actually liked how the vampires looked and acted, just not how they sounded.

funny enough i enjoyed ben fosters role very much, kind of the highlight of the film for me.

i really liked this movie, and was sorry i didn't see it on the big screen. i HATE it when that happens.

I saw this a little while ago. It was fairly decent for what it was, not mind-numbingly stupid but not all that memorable either. The Mexican was right in that it didn't ring true that they killed mostly everyone in the first night. It just means they would have had to stick around there for 29 more days with nothing to do.

This film was OK though. I rank it higher than Tarantino's Death Proof which I saw around the same time.

why would they have to stick around for 29 more days with nothing else to do? maybe i missed something in the movie, cuz we watched a crappy download version with bad sound, and we were a little "altered" at the time. But i guess i figured that they've existed for a long time, and gluttony was just a part of their survival, like my dog if she's offered a platter of lasagna, or a BL'r offered a tray of powder. not much planning for the future is usually involved; ya get it while you can. I just figured they'd push on to another town, eat what was available, sleep comfortably, and then go to wherever they hibernate after everything is finished. seems like dragging things out would increase their chances of getting killed...

maybe i need to watch it again, with a legit copy, and pay better attention.
