24 Hour Party People

I searched, no thread . . . this movie rules. Its about the rise of Factory Records and the advent of post punk rave culture in the UK at the Hacienda . . . please make this a poll, wonderful film. Thoughts?

i dont really dig the music but the movie was brillant.

highlights i remember were telling the drummer to play on the roof of the studio and then driving off and the mile long coke line

I was disappointed with this movie.
The young kid who started Factory records was a cock.

Saw it when it came out to the movies at school....loved the way it was done as a documentary that didn't take itself too seriously when it didn't have to...very interesting background stuff and I liked the actors in it :)

i liked how this covered pieces of music history that are often ignored. the parts where everything goes to shit were especially entertaining -- the overpriced conference table, the band going to ibiza and coming back with nothing.

My friend (somehow) got the impression that this movie was about another type of party people (think people who are on such drugs that make them awake and party 24 hours per day ;) ) so she dragged me to go see it.

About 20 minutes into the movie we realized this movie had nothing to do with what we thought it was about. So we left :p

i thought that this was really funny at times, and i especially thought the acting in it was great. would have been better if i was a little more clued in towards all the music/industry references that were being made but still i managed to enjoyed it.

i gave it three stars.

Thoughts on 24 Hour Party People?

Anybody from that manchester or that area like thaty movie? I love this movie and i wish i could go back in time, travel to England and live that scene. Man, has anybody seen Shaun Ryder lately? Drugs sure did thier toll on him huh?

I agree. My top 4 time travel fantasies would look like this:

1. Madchester-era Manchester 1989 (for all the E)
2. Studio 54-era New York 1977 (for all the coke)
3. Late silent-era Hollywood 1925 (for all the smack)
4. Hippy era San Fran in 1969 (for all the acid)

Manchester reminds me me of my town. Industrial, northern, lots of brick and concrete. I like how Steve Coogan is describing, at the end of the movie, how the rave culture started. "The beautification of the beat"

^ Yes. I saw Saxondale series the other week. Funny shit

i'd go back a bit further and catch Joy Division live. That would have been pretty amazing.
