1. How long does it take to fall asleep after using it?
2. How fast does tolerance build up?
3. Is it possible to have a fatal OD on this? If so, how much does it take and how much conscious suffering would there be?

1. Depends on dose, tolerance, body weight, whether or not you use other sedating antihistamines. Usually 25 to 50mg in a naive person is enough to make people drowsy. Peak plasma concentrations are achieved in 2 or 3 hours after an oral dose, so effects usually take about an hour to manifest.
2. Usually pretty quickly. It does vary between people but after about 2-3 days it's typical for efficacy as a sedative to fall off.
3. It's possible to have a fatal OD on anything. Diphenhydramine overdoses act as a pretty good deleriant so you'd probably just go stark raving mad before you got anywhere near the lethal dose. Even if you took a lethal dose you would still have hallucinations and uncomfortable body load on the "come up" followed a prolonged period of very uncomfortable, sweaty delerium where you act like a wildman before you collapse entirely. It's also very likely that medical staff could revive you, but depending on how bad you get you can suffer permanent brain damage (from massive overheating) or damage to other major organs (kidneys, liver, heart) as well as any trauma incurred from your delerium.

Mandatory Disclaimer: If you're looking for a drug to OD on, diphenhydramine is a really poor choice. There's plenty of people out there that can help you with your troubles if you're willing to talk to them - try calling a suicide help line that can help talk with you and figure things out that don't involve you hurting yourself.

I used to be really curious about diphenhydramine because I just wanted a medicine that would always be there so I could always sleep my problems away. But in reality I just always felt so sick from the high doses I needed to fall asleep that I wished I was dead....

1. 30 minutes to kick in depending on contents of stomach. Like any drug it takes time to be absorbed through the stomach lining, but it does start working pretty fast. Closer to an hour to feel the full effects
2. Tolerance builds up quickly but also decreases quickly once you stop taking it.
3. It's possible to take enough to kill yourself, although it takes a lot and it would be a very unpleasant experience. I tried it once with like a whole box and I just felt so sick and slept for literally like 3 days. It's definitely not a sure way to go and it would cause suffering as how it would ultimately kill you would be by damaging your organs (liver/kidneys). It would not be a quick "die in your sleep" kind of death. --- If that's what you're looking for, I suggest you try to seek help and talk about what's really going on that's making you feel that way.
