Hi
I have a question. My dad was prescribed 50 mg fentanyl patches for a few years before he died. I guess he was addicted to them. I don't know how many he used, the packs said every 72 hrs? I know at some point there he would leave the used ones on while adding a new one and we found out he had like 3 patches on him at one time, but according to him 2 were basically all used up.
Anyhow, how big a dose is 50? Was he a very heavy user? And what would happen if a person without any opiate tolerance put a 50 on themselves? Would they OD?
Thanks

So they are designed for a really slow release and you never have very much in your system at one time me. Probably more just sleepiness than euphoria. I know he was taking some other pain meds at the same time, though. He did things like fall asleep in restaurants and crash his car.

In older people opioids have more marked effects than in young people.
They know this very well in hospitals that practice pain therapy.
Even a disease greatly affects the effects of opioids, taking drugs, slow metabolism, liver problems, kidneys, blood clotting.
An elderly person is much more likely to develop problems even at very mild doses than a young, healthy person.
If your father applied several patches at the same time or did not have enough analgesia, or... yes could have become addicted to it.
50 mcg/h may not seem like a lot, but a naive person hears them on the second day.
If I overdose I don't know, especially on the skin, but if they start treatment with 12.5 mg/h there is a reason
