Mods, please move to proper forum if this isn't it. I did read the stickies and searched all relevant topics. Just did not see the info I was looking for.
This thread is not about how to abuse Fentanyl or get around the safety mechanisms of the patches or the matrix system employed by the Mylan fentanyl patches.
Quick background. I do not party with my pain meds. I need them for pain. I'll smoke some weed if I wanna get high. Been on pain meds for 5 years or more... Tried most of the instant release varieties. I have a decent tolerance. Even on a low dose ER med, I can still snort 10 -12 4mg dillies in a 24 hour period, a Soma 4 or 5 times a day, occasionally a second one of the first isn't working, and about 2-3mgs of xanax spread out over a day without "nodding out" or feeling particularly high or buzzed. At bedtime, I will hit them all at once plus 50mg of benadryl to get to sleep. Doesn't always do the job. The only reason I snort the dillies is to get more of the medicine and not have to wait for it to kick in; an advantage of dillies is twice the bioavailability by insufflation.
MY PM doc is bent on switching me to Extended Release meds. I am hip to the idea because it would be great not to watch the clock or haul around all my meds with me. Exalgo was too expensive, even with insurance and a $100 coupon. Opana ER was good once we dialed up the correct dose, but it gave me splitting headaches; apparently not an uncommon side effect.
So I got a script for 50mcg Fentanyl patches. I had tried the 25's before after a procedure and was glad to see they were the 50's. The first couple of patches went fine over the first week. Then patch #3 went on. I noticed it stuck well. Feeling no pain. NONE. By the 2nd day , I was stoned and nodding off hard all day. I chuckled to myself that the "nod lovers" would really dig this. A couple of five hour energy shots and I was able to go out for awhile and eat and riun an errand. Sleeping that night was problematic. My breathing was very shallow with long pauses in between. I was by myself and I am fairly well educated on pharmaceuticals. I knew the signs. I was pretty sure I would just have a nice deep sleep, but I was worried about that pesky breathing thing. I finally ripped it off and stayed up for a couple more hours until I felt safer.
The next day, I called the PM doc and told him while my goal was to make the pain go away, I could not be that stoned. I asked him to script me some 25's until I see him for my next visit. He did. I did use a another 50mcg the next day to test and although I was buzzed, I was not as fucked up as I had been on the previous patch. It also did not seem to have as much adhesive as the last patch, In fact, it didn't want to stick hardly at all.
So here is my question: Have other users run into some inconsistencies with how strong your patches really are? Do some seem to have more adhesive and be stronger/weaker than others, even in the same batch?
I asked two pharmacists and they said it was impossible. Both of then stated that the matrix system is very consistent and the drug is in the adhesive and I must have "put it on wrong". Whatever.... Directions followed to the letter - both DO's and DON'T's.
So for now, I am on the 25's and they work okay, but I still want/need every one of my BT meds to stay pain free and ready to work or go to sleep. I am thinking that once I am used to the 25's, I may go back to the 50's. I did save a 50mcg patch for testing later on. However, my faith in the delivery and manufacturing of this drug is not very high. I have great respect for my meds, especially Fentanyl as I know how fucking potent it is.
Please do not fuck up this thread talking about how to abuse or alter this drug. I do not want it closed prematurely.
Has another manufacturer worked more consistently for you?
Thanks in advance from a chronic pain patient that knows other chronics and some addicts have the best information
