I've been being treated for a horrible intestinal disease called C-Diff. This has come back 3 times in 5 months and is treated with antibiotics, however the pain is so excruciating they have added opiates in the following ways.
First the vicodin5-500's up to 8 a day. After that my PCP switched me to Fentanyl 75mcg/hour. I research it a lot and was very surprised to find out all the things I found out. I did not know about the chewing/smoking/gum swabbing, ot that it was 10 times stronger than morphine. I took it like i was suppose too. I was on it for two weeks while we battled with the insurance companies. In the end they wouldnt cover any more until I tried a titrate of MS Contin.
So I stop the fentanyl which was helping the pain really well at first. I cut my Vicodin 5-500s breakthrough down to 4 instead of 8. Had to order bioclusive to keep it on, but during the second week the pain started to increase badly on day 2 instead of day 3, and my breakthrough med started to climb back up.
Then we get the news about the insurance so I switch to MS Contin, she starts me at 15 twice a day. Nothing for the pain. She switches to 30mg twice a day' one 15 mg as a prn and still Vicodin for breakthough pain.
The pain is so bad I am not chasing a high with this, having C-Diff this many times is ridiculous and I actually have to have a fecal transplant to cure it.
What I really need to know is do I stick with the MS Contin or try to get back on the fentanyl. I have 7 patches left but I've stuck to the MS Contain for now. I have over researched and I don't know what to do....the stuff they say about fentanyl scares the shit out of me but it did help the pain. I also worry about getting off all this shit when the infection finally gets fixed. My withdrawals are always bad even on vicodin so I can't imagine withdrawals from fentanyl. At this point I'm so over researched, scared, and worst of all the relentless pain.
My mom told me tonight she thinks I'm gonna die in my sleep. My current dosages are eight 5-500's of Vic,
30 mgs of ms Contin twice a day plus one extra 15 mg of MS Contin a day for pain.
Can anyone out there please help me with some advise?
