The 'Fallout' series of games, just the first and its sequel so far, have always been extremely enjoyable for a number of fantastic reasons:
Firstly, there's no 'class' or 'type' system, where you have to choose what you'll be, like in other RPGs where you're a swordsman or a mage, etc; you can put points into whatever skills you like and use whatever weapons you like.
Secondly, I've yet to find another RPG with as much freedom; you're given multiple choices of action from combat to diplomacy. You can walk into a town and massacre everyone there, including children! That part isn't important, but it's the simple idea that you can do anything; steal or trade, kill or talk your way out of it, go here, there, go anywhere. Play a stupid character or a super-intelligent character...
Thirdly, the funny dialogue with others and the interaction with characters certainly makes these games amazing! The plot is interesting and the idea of nuclear holocaust is not so much fantasy because it's entirely possible, though very unlikely.
I'm waiting for the third installment in the series, which has been made by the team behind 'Oblivion'--Bethesda Softworks(?)--which is good as I thoroughly enjoyed that game, too.
However, will the change from a tile-based 2D game to a fully three-dimensional game change anything? Also, what're your thoughts on the games, all of them, as of the content released thus far?
I'm somewhat curious as to whether my favourite game of all time is as well-liked by the rest of you. Anyone gone to the trouble of developing mods or even your own isometric engines? I loved the 'UFO' / 'XCOM' series of games, too; classics, absolutely!
