Stimulants Extreme depression since I quit dexamphetamine for ADD

So I've been on ADD meds for about 2 years now, about 50-60 mg a day and I've quit now for about a month. I did not want to be dependent on speed for the rest of my life and wanted to see how I was without any "aid", without boxing gloves. The problem is that life basically sucks and is increasingly crappy for me. I feel extremely low and fatigued, nothing is "fun" and I am pretty much in an extremely dark place, almost suicidal. Anyway I can't take this state much longer and I'm kind of on the fence about whether I should just get back on it or grit my teeth and stay fully clean. Any suggestions on what might be the best course of action? Is this really all withdrawal from the dexamp still? I had no idea it would be this extreme.

Amphetamine itself is not neurotoxic. However, large doses of amphetamine may cause indirect neurotoxicity as a result of increased oxidative stress from reactive oxygen species and autoxidation of dopamine.
this may explain some of your symptoms.
Bupropion has shown some efficacy in post-amphetamine depression. maybe try that?
edit: also, Bupropion has shown its own efficacy as an ADHD med.

Have you tried ritalin as alternative?

Some people also use memantine to reduce amphetamine tolerance. You could ask your doc about it.
You will also find stuff online about memantine and amphetamines.

Personally I'd rather get back on it if it helps you. Maybe try lower doses and see how lower doses work.

Most amphetamines affect your dopamine uptake, id recommend supplement and eating healthy, and try to keep a nice sleep cycle. Over time your depression will subside. If you are worried talk to your doctor about it he will be able to help.

I was prescribed adderall, and recreationally used for months, at high doses 60mg+. After having to stop cold turkey, I felt more depressed and I guess the word would be fiend for some more, because adderall made me enjoy doing things I would normally not. It kinda made me the person I want to be, and motivated me to work. Well after stopping I had trouble sleeping and eating, and felt less motivated. Cannabis really helped me with my problems and supplements aided me a lot.

Hopefully this helps you.

I believe this is vyvanse and i know vyvanse has a lot of side effects so you may just be expierences some long term effects. If you are worried talk to your doctor about it he will be able to help.

I was prescribed adderall which is stronger than vyvanse or ritalin, and recreationally used for months, at high doses 60mg+. Well it's just dextro amphetamine really, not vyanse or a brand, just pure d-amp which is prescribed like that here in holland. Kind of like Aderall but with less side-effects I've heard. It misses the physical energy part and is more mental.
The thing I really am struggling with is a complete lack of any motivation and really I do not care to do pretty much anything. I have been trying to sleep well and eat well but it doesn't seem to do much and cannabis seems to only make me even more tired and apathetic. It did help me a lot with motivation-related issues but frankly I find being on an amphetamine daily quite worrying and wonder what that will do to your overall dopamine regulation etc, making it permanently inefficient without the drug. I did quit rather cold-turkey. Maybe I should get back on it and taper really slow... I don't know, maybe a visit to the doctor is for the best
