I'm currently on 30mg Adderall XR (taken once daily) for my ADHD (legally prescribed). I've noticed that my tolerance is higher than it used to be, which is understandable given that I've taken it for quite awhile. I am no longer as motivated/focused as I was when I began treatment. Don't get me wrong, it still works at keeping me focused and engaged, but does not give me the same jolt that it used to (the jolt and motivation that makes studying organic chemistry for hours enjoyable).

I could tell my doctor about my increased tolerance and she could increase the dosage, but I don't want to be one of those people with ADHD that continuously increase their Adderall dosage. Ideally, I'd like to keep my dosage exactly where it is. I try to take at least a few days off of my medication every week.

I've read some reports on the internet of NMDA antagonists being effective at preventing amphetamine tolerance, or at least slowing the rate at which tolerance does develop. Is there any truth to these reports? If so, how does it work? Is it worth supplementing with magnesium and/or DXM? Are there other NDMA antagonists that I should know about?

Thank you all for your time in reading and answering. =D

Im not very sure about this, but you can easily take a t-break, though your tolerance declines slowly.

And are you on name brand adderall or off brand(i.e vyvanse)

I would maybe recommend switching to irs just because the dose will be stronger but shorter which maybe bring back your motivation.

Hope this helps you.

I'm on generic Adderall XR 30mg. Would it be worth talking to my doctor about switching? Other than the slightly decreased focus/motivation, it's still fairly effective.

I'd just like to know whether there's any truth to the whole NMDA antagonist thing... i.e., whether or not it has any impact on tolerance.

I really like irs but the problem with irs is you have too bump up around 3-5 hours after ingestion. Rather than how xrs work releasing more overtime but weaker. I guess its more of a personal preference but it may be worth a try. Goodluck!
