Effect of Weed on Sperm

recently a "sexologist" came to my college and answered several questions regarding sex.

someone asked him something like "what effect does weed have on the reproductive system?" he claimed it lowered sperm count (which didnt surprise me) but he also said weed can mutate genes and cause birth defects in children!!! 8o 8o

this completely shocked me because everyone in the audience took this man's word as truth and yet he had absolutely no proof to back this up. if a child is born with birth defects there could be a BILLION reasons why that happened, how could someone specifically pinpoint weed as the cause??!! does anyone have any information regarding this? im extremely interested because i have never heard of this notion before. my friends seem to think im stupid for even rejecting this man's claim, but im not one to blindly believe in what "experts" have to say 8)
 
it's kinda like with cigarettes...smoking affects the sperm and MAY cause birth defects. weed is no different. there is NO guarantee that it will or won't it's really a 50/50 chance and certain factors like heredity may increase those chances. he wasn't lying when he said that so yes there's some truth to it but i don't think that it's 100% that if you smoke weed your child will have a birth defect. i did drugs for 4 years straight and my little girl is VERY healthy and developing right on target so... also my BF smoked cigs and drank and smoked weed a few times (he doesn't like it) and well like i said so far she's ok
 
There have been a couple of studies linked to marijuana causing birth defects, but as you said, there's a thousand reasons why such a thing could happen, read it for yourself in this pdf (under; 6.3 Foetal development and birth defects): http://www.stopteenuse.com/pdf/2003_effects_study_full.pdf

The 2 chapters before 6.3 deal with the effects on the male and female reproductive system. It'll debunk the shite you heard from that "sexologist"..
 
Let's use a bit of common sense. of COURSE pot CAN cause birth defects, and mess up your swimteam. but do y ou know how many dudes are on your team? millions, billions maybe? I'm not exactly sure. the point is, the chance of them getting mutated AND still making it to an egg to fertilise it, AND have the mutation actually be expressed in the child...not likely.
 
Nevertheless, if U R planning on pro-creating, I would think it wise to abstain from herb for at least a month.

A child born into this world needs every chance at being born healthy that it can get.
 
You could take a quasi-Darwinist view on this and say that only the strongest sperm will be uneffected by the THC and related metabolites, and that will be the one to get to the egg
 
I think this claim is bullshit.
I have been a daily marijuana smoker for 8 years and first time I tried to have a child with my wife I did and the same goes for some of my friends.
My child is also very healthy and smart.
 
ohh shit so thats why I started to cum less then I do a year ago....8o 8o =D

^Agreed, but in response to the question in hand, my answer is: No. There are many myths and rumors about marijuana and how it affects you. I don't care if you are a 200th degree doctor... marijuana efffects everyone differently, and you can't generalize it. But I know for a fact that there are some things that don't change. They'll say anthing to get you to not smoke weed/ do drugs.

Birth defects? I bet there is a connection, makes sense and have heard it before. But the chances of it affecting YOU'RE child in my opinion are rare. Like said previously, you have millions of army men and the chance of a deformed spermy making in the egg are unlikely.

it s working as been as normal cigarette whic mean if are smoker you should know that cannabis is fu.king ur sperm
 
There are a lot worse things that are affecting our sperm mutations and counts.. just in the past 50 years I believe that the average rate cut in half..
 
makes em slow down and if they dont get to the egg in time they die also they swim in diff directions this is true but only when ur high at the time of procreation i dunno about if ur not high
