Duromine (phentermine XR) and studying

I'm assuming you're referring to the Australian XR formulation of phentermine, so I'm going to edit the title of your post to reflect this (many people have never heard of this trade name, including myself, I had to Google search it...)

In regards to your question, I imagine it would be effective, as it is similar in structure and action to amphetamine.

I've had experience with phentermine in the form of Adipex-P in the U.S. and although it has psychostimulant effects, it's effects on the PNS is much, much more powerful. It increases the heart rate, skyrockets the blood pressure, causes anxiety, and it's just not a fun drug. Yes, it has "similar" effects to amphetamines, but it's psychological/behavioral effects are minimal compared to it's effects on the PNS.

It might work as a study aid, but with the kind of effects it has on the PNS I'd say it's not worth it.

Thank-you for your replies.

A friend of mine has been prescribed it and she has had terrible mood swings after two weeks of use so has stopped taking it. I have a few weeks to study for my exams so one day or two days of trial should be ok.

However, increased blood pressure and heart rate doesn't sound like my forte...

The Duromine's are XR (so it's extended release), you should be totally fine in taking a therapeutic dose of it to study. The pills I took (Adipex) were not extended release, they were immediate release, which is why the effects were strong.

I'm in Australia and got hold of some Duromine and have been studying on it. Totally works for me :) Kinda like how concerta I think worked better for studying for me than ritalin (like kokaino said, slow release!) Umm yeah my friend took it everyday in a row for about a week and a half and said her mood swings were so horrible! I'd recommend one every three days and your mood should be ok, but it depends on how long you are going to keep taking it for and also what the mg is. These were 40mg. If you want to be productive, I'd also recommend having some painkillers handy because every time I take it I get headaches
