i dabble in drums
(don't have my own set, haven't played in years and i suck)
and lately i've been wayyy obsessed with cymbals.
mostly because of this:
the stupidly dry zildjian he bought, it's really pleasant and appealing to my ears... (i sit and wonder how a cymbalsmith would go about copying that extreme lack of wash and beautiful dark tone)
anyway, i discovered that i REALLY enjoy the darkish, dry and kinda trashy (read: "complex") tones people get off of the istanbul agop xist dark/ dry cymbals:
oh yeah, the big rides ringing out reminds me of slipping away into nitrous oxide space, or those trippy 1960s tape delay feedback loops. absolutely hypnotic. i might have to buy a cymbal stand and one of those 22" rides just to tap on it when i wanna relax.

anyway, i'm guessing my opinion is the minority among drummers (real drummers, unlike my novice self) because it seems more people like loud, brilliant, traditional (shiny lathed) cymbals that can sit on top of a mix.
so what cymbals are your favorites?
