Im watching Drugs Inc.on TV now, they are showing the location cocoa leaves are made in paste, the runners who move it around mexico, Peru, etc. all the way to SoCal...the drug supply doesnt surprise me, but Im wondering is how the fuck the producers ever managed to get permission to film this shit, most of the people wear masks over most of their faces, so they cant be identified, but as ruthless as the cartels are, I find it hard to believe ANYONE involved in the manufacture, or distribution would ever agree to be filmed??!!

Even they paid them, it would have to be a huge fucking sum..right?

I guess they could be actors and they are just showing how they think it all works..IDK?

I was thinking the exact same thing when I watched it bout a week ago... May be looking too far into it

^^yea, I guess...I saw one episode where they showed fields of opium poppies, there was like 25 guys with AK47s guarding the field!

I will say this though...an entire field of poppies is a fucking beautiful thing to see!!!

I think getting these people to agree is pretty easy just based on how many docs I see now. People feel generally protected if the wear a mask or bandana haha. Some people do not seem like the smartesy, for instance the one episode they did in Seattle, one chick who had a massive amount of drugs only covered her face but her apartment probably could have easily been identified by someone from Seattle. Also, Vice does docs with drug people all the time including cocaine dealers who make the stuff in their kitchens and again they covered their faces but their home probably could be identified by someone from the area. Also, seen some stuff of junkies in Afghanistan ranging from 12 - middle aged simply shooting up on camera in a center divide of a busy ass street.

Tell me bout it. I was just reading a thread talking about Afghanistans opium crop. Called it the city of narco or something of that nature. Can't seem to find it now

True but there's a big difference between a local street dealer and the cartel. Amused me how they lost the law following and tracking them on radar. They're pretty clever

IDK, the more I think about it, i think the people on this show are actors.

But if not, Im curious how the producers even go about doing new shows, I mean, do they just go to a certain city and start asking people where they can find dope dealers...then saying, well, can we film you making runs to your clients, filming you re-upping from your guy, etc. LOL If I ever had someone ask me to do this, Id tell them to get lost, (only exception would be if they offered me a shit ton of cash OR like a fucking pound of heroin up front LOL), but Id be REAL curious how they even found me to begin with. lol

Oh yeah, if they do just go to random cities and start asking who the dope dealers are, this would be risky in the US, but when they are deep in mexico, or other dangerous places, Id think that would be a death sentence to even ask for such a thing..but who knows, maybe they offer enough cash to make it worth it...then again, cant be that much money involved, cuz after all, its just a tv show that aint that popular.

I also bet they use baking soda, brown sugar, etc to make the dope look like real dope.

i can kind of watch drugs inc, without being grossed out by the obvious anti-drug rhetoric it preaches alongside acual user experiences. because otherwise they wouldn't be able to show such a show on a major broadcasting channel. so while it obviously reinforces that anti-drug sentiment, it also opens up the discussion to the user/dealers perspective. which most squares wouldn't usually get to see. so its like preaching to the people if you feel me.

I like to think its a mix of dramatization and real stuff. Yes stuff about having kilos and showing some dude with them may be "set up" but I think it's easy to get a junkie to shoot up on camera or smoke crack. They may get "stories" from members and act out the scenes themselves. Either way I think there's some true and some acting.

Makes sense

Well producers of the show have posted on here (prior to the Denver episode when they were filming it) and they were looking for people to fill them in on the local drug scene and I'm assuming they would look to meet up with these people and go from there.

Can you imagine going to your dealer and saying

'Yeah, national geographic just paid me $50 to inject on film, and 50 more for giving them my connect. They say they'll give you 100 that to talk to them. No worries though, they'll film your hood and apartment, but they'll cover your face so noone will know it's you.'

I think that would be the last time my connection ever spoke to me again if I did something like that!! LOL

It depends on the person though, some people have big egos and being on TV as the "person who owns (city)" may fit them very well in their eyes. But a few of my friends said they wouldnt mind being the junkie on the show so I know that part must be easy. Especially when they show those 18 year olds who think they are cool smoking blunts i think thats real.

On a side note i would love to work on the show, they must have hook ups for awesome shit all over the US.

^ If I was still doing dope and had no real place to live , I would be the junkie on camera in a second if they offered to get me well.

However, I wouldn't bring them anywhere near my people.

I know but we see this all the time on TV.
They change the voice, face. Besides, you could always negotiate to get more.
Pure journalism, right??

I'd have no problem so long as they blurred my face, changed my voice and put up a black background behind me when filming. And yeah, no way in hell I take them with me to get meet my guy. Guarantee he never answers the phone for me ever again after that.
