Drug Testing Q&A section seems outdated

That section is closed to new topics because it is said that everything has been discussed already and info can be found on erowid.

Well... no, everything has not been discussed. The most recent thread about hair-testing is from 2006. Sure, back in 2006 it was rare to have to go through a hair-test, but now it's very common because it's so much cheaper. Lots of major corporations are using hair-testing now, not just government jobs. And erowid's site is very out-dated as well in that area.

In a few months it will be 2011 and I believe discussions about this topic need to be started back up to get ourselves up to date on what kind of experiences people are encountering. We won't ever know if the sub-forum remains completely closed, right? This message board is very comprehensive but not for that area at all. Anyway, thanks for your time.

Harm reduction in relation to drug testing is DONT USE DRUGS.

Hence there is no need for a forum about drug testing.

We are not here to discuss means of beating drug tests.
 
In my opinion an update is in order at some point or the archive out to be jettisoned. Drug testing has changed a great deal. I understand the user agreement principle that BL is not here to help people circumvent the law. It is closely related to the drug testing issue. Really stale info that is frozen in 2006 about a evolving topic does not seem worth keeping to me unless someone is finding it sentimentally or historically important.

If the drug testing topic were opened up somewhere is there anyway it could be kept from constantly going into the direction of being about circumventing the law?

If a question is about if you can refuse a drug test or how to deal with the consequences of a drug test result, Legal Discussion takes those kind of questions. Questions about what sorts of things can explain false positives, what range of time will one likely to test positive after usage, don't seem to have a place now afaik. If questions get answered with suggestions to fool or tamper with tests it is not going to work. I suspect that is why drug testing isn't a permitted topic on BL for the most part anymore.

Also, erowids site is just as extremely poor in information as well. There is no good go-to site for this subject.

Quite honestly, the reason this came up for me was because I was researching the ways to beat hair-tests.

And after weeks of reading information from different forums, I came to the conclusion that ALL shampoos and methods that claimed to be able to help pass your hair test, WERE ALL SCAMS.

I never bought them or went through a hair-test, but my god, if I didn't do my research, I would have been so duped. There is so much horrible information out there in this topic, and horrible methods that involve bleaching your hair, redying it, bleaching your hair, redying it... which all do NOTHING.

The forums that coincidentally have the success stories from random members, were ones that have paid sponsors/advertisements/banners of hair shampoos as well.

There is A LOT of money being made in this fraudulent niche market. It would be nice if bluelight provided a beacon of truth in this area, as it does in so many other sub forums.

MazDan has a point tho, it's harm reduction.. Personally, And I'm sure I'm not alone on this, I see losing a job, or having anything else happen as a result of failing a drug test as harm..

On that note, I passed a piss test today and I'm super stoked about that! =D

is not bluelight's official line so don't use it like it is.

The OP is making a reasonable request for discussion and if things have changed and Erowid's section is as poor as said then yeah it's a dialogue that could be worth starting.

The way I see it, Bluelight is designed about the idea of reducing harm on your own individual person or persons you know. Don't shoot this, don't randomly drop that, don't mix these drugs, etc. But is it really designed to reduce harm that may result of following the above and yet still putting yourself in a position of non-physical compromise or in the harm of innocents?

e.g. We tell user X to not mix various downers in the sake of reducing X's harm. And we do this to keep X alive and medically safe.

But the purpose is to learn from HR topics and help incorporate that into a more responsible lifestyle with minimal dangers to a person's physical (and perhaps psychological) well-being, given the unavoidable actions and their dangers.

Helping people pass a drug test, though, does not exactly align with this. Through helping one pass a given test, we may actually be endangering others, assuming the person will take it back up once obtaining the job and that job may be one that should NOT be done whilst on drugs. And this is not harm-reduction in the broad-sense. Yes, there may be a handful of people who genuinely want to get clean ASAP to get their lives back on track (and for that I point to the rest of the internet for advice), but we don't want to align our message with one that chimes "beating the system." Hence why we prohibit talk about how to obtain drugs, how to source through vendors, how to "get really fucked up" or whatnot. We are here under the assumption that if User Y has Drug Z and is steadfast to use it, we'll help the person do it as responsibly as possible; anything beyond that would turn from harm reduction to drug promotion.

Helping you pass your drug test may be reducing harm to your professional career, sure, but as has been said before - if you care so much about your professional future, just take a break from illicit substances. Doing so minimises the harm to yourself and to those who may work with you. Beating a test mainly promotes an attitude of "hey I did it once..." and we really don't want to see you get headstrong and screw up your life when that second result comes back positive.

As for that forum, staff will look into it being transparent to the public.

Just a refresher there, for those that forget it exists.

My perspective on the site's goals, and specifically where drug testing fits into these things is that our goal is to provide information for individuals to make their own decisions. We don't judge that someone's drug use is acceptable or not, we presume people will make that decision for themselves. Expecting that some people will choose to use drugs, we seek to provide them information so as not to endanger their health and well being - don't mix these drugs, limit intake of those drugs to avoid overdose, what to do in case of an overdose, etc.

We aren't here to tell you how to trick drug tests, anymore than we're trying to teach people how to drive drunk and get away with it or con doctors into prescriptions for recreational use. We haven't set up guides on getting to work/school and appearing to function whilst high, how to hide or explain drug possession/use with your parents, etc - these are not related to safe use of drugs, it is related to life choices you have to determine for yourself. You know the consequences here, we don't have to teach you those consequences like we try to do with drug combos or overdoses or impurities in your drugs. We don't address how you get your drugs, or the when-where of using them - these are your decisions to own, and you live with the ethical and legal ramifications of those decisions. We address that *if* you have drugs, HOW to use them safely.

As to the drug testing forum specifically, having it there and closed is something of a poor choice on our part given how it has aged. We need to either redirect our site policy to include discussion of testing and re-open it, or close it all together with an indicator that it is not content we wish to host on our site. As RL indicates, we'll take it up with staff.
