So has anyone dropped a class b4?
my story,
my partying has caught up with me, i didn't go to my English class all last week, or the week before. I have a doc excuse for it, its jus i missed ALOT and the las day 2 drop is comen up.

Has anyone dropped a class b/c of either missing to much of class, or it was to hard.

Yeah I ve dropped classes lol, usually due to teachers when I was that stubborn. One semster I was forced to go to rehab because of a fent/crack addiction and was forced to drop a full load. Since I've cleaned my act up I dropped one class as I accidentaly signed up for an online class on accident. My mind set is I have to do it so just buckle down and ride it out, otherwise an AA can turn into a decade long process. Hope everything works out for you brother :D.

If you're going to fail it and it's before the date to drop classes then drop it. You avoid having a fail on your academic record that way. But only do that if you're sure you're going to fail, since it'll keep you at university longer.

How sure are you that you'll fail? What is the assessment for the course like? Do you have anything due soon or do you have time to catch up before any assessment needs to be handed in?

I have dropped a few classes. In fact, I dropped ALL my classes last fall & spring due to raging heroin addiction. It set me back, but it was circumstantial and now I am back to school and doing well.

I also haven't been to my group theory class in about 2 weeks. It's okay though, I'm keeping up with the work and all...

So if I can drop before the last date to drop it wont show up anything negative on my gpa?

It won't hurt your gpa at all but It will show up as a drop on your record, a few don't really matter but if you're at a jc and planning on transfering to a university it looks bad to have dropped a lot of classes.

I withdrew from a class once (4 courses concurrent with authoring my undergrad thesis wasn't working out :)). It doesn't really matter unless it happens multiple terms. With a dash of luck, I still got into my first choice of grad schools...

Your not stupid for taking a lower level english class. Writing just may not be your thing.

I get A's in english classes easily but I had to drop and re take college statistics and I dropped physics. English and history are my thing, Math is not. Play to your strengths and don't worry about the rest man, it's not high school anymore.

^ Your -> You're ;)

But ya D's, just try and do well in whatever courses you are in. You will always be able to move up the latter and take the harder stuff in future years. Just keep improving and you'll get where you want to be. Nothing in life is easy, and the best accomplishments often take a long time.

We all go through different paths D's. Just because you're starting from a different one than maybe a lot of college students doesn't add up to a bag of sand. You have to do what is right for you. I think if you believe you need to drop this class then do it. I had to drop a Geography class when I realized how much tech-savviness it demanded. Sure, it didn't feel good but looking back it was the right thing to do. :)

Thanks for the responses everyone, it means a lot to me. It's going to be hard, and I'm sure that there will be times when I feel like not being able to do it. I'm going to have to just stick to my word and finish college. My college is already paid for. My grandparents got me and all my brothers and sisters a "PACT". I have a free ride with college, I just have to do it.
I learned that I have to take life a day at a time, and not to worry about tomorrow or the next day.
If I can just make it through this minute doing something productive I believe in the long run I will reach my goals.

So I dropped 2 classes this morning. Sucks, I will get a "W" on my record. I have no Idea what it means, hopefully it just means I'm going to re-take it :)

You aren't stupid Ds. I'm leaving CC w/o a AA degree because they didn't give me an exemption for math, and I am supposed to take 2 pre reqs. Seriously it's very common to not be good at one subject but good in another.

Seriously don't beat yourself up man :).

If you want my honest opinion how a "W" looks - not great, but not NEARLY as terrible as an F.

It is my understanding that doing it once doesn't really matter at all, but if this occurs multiple terms, it will weaken your transcript. However, if you are ceasing higher ed at your current institution, it likely won't matter at all, as employers rarely take the time to look at transcripts.

Always good to meet a fellow opioid dependant math student!

IMO, the best book to learn algebra is hernstein (I think I got the name right, still have a copy of the book at home--right up there with rudin's analysis).

This is my first year and I've had to drop 2 4 credit classes. The first was because I was still learning their net based registration system and signed up for a class at a planetarium in another city. The other class was intermediate algebra, the professor didn't like this for what ever reason and thought it would be better to teach us more advanced material not remotely covered in our $200 textbooks.... glad the feds paid for that class/book.

Probably could have squeaked by but the class was filled with a bunch of kids (18-24) also. I'm only 19 myself but I don't get along with people my age, fucking always gossiping and talking about the latest bullshit that doesn't matter in possible way. I've found evening/weekend classes to be filled with more "adults" and working professionals, a bit more interesting people to talk to.

Would help if their was some nice ass but my city is rundown and full of nasty hood rats.
