I've battled this opiate addiction for a long time.....even had it beat for a while and stayed on maint w sub for a while to taper. I've been on about. 5mg or maybe even a little less (hard to tell w 8mg strips) for about 2 weeks. Would wake up every morn with the dreaded RLS!. Well, im getting a tooth pulled in 2 wks and want to be off everything. Wife had boob job done last week and had 8 7.5/500's left, and we'll.....I couldn't sleep b/c of the toothache so I took 3. Woke up w/ no RLS (obviously). But where do I really go from here??? I have about 4 mg total of sub left, should I just taper take the hydro and deal with w/e comes or finish off the sub?? Always heard that sub w/d is worse????? Any help greatly appreciated!

Any advice please??? Just worried about this, worked so hard to get off these damn opiates....maybe im down to a low enough dose to where it wont be that bad.....????

Taking a couple hydrocodones shouldn't mess your taper up too bad at all. But if you only have 4mg of suboxone left, I would just stick to the plan and keep tapering. You can always lower it more than .5mg, like try .25mg for a few days and then jump off. Depending on how long you've been on them, the withdrawal shouldn't be too horrific. It will be more psychological than physical. You'll definitely get anxiety/RLS/insomnia/etc and some minor physical symptoms. Bupe is very strong, many people under estimate it and jump off at too high a dose.

Are you getting them from a doctor? If so, I would talk to him about getting some 'comfort meds' for a short course, to use when you finally jump off the subs. There are plenty of meds available OTC and by prescription, that you can make withdrawals almost non-existant.

The subs didn't come from a dr, and all sources have ran dry. (Which is a good thing, b/c I know the longer you're on it, the harder it is to come off). I've been on subs total for about 2 months which I've made 5- 8mg strips last. I feel like im almost there, but every morning id wake up and couldn't wait to get that tiny pc of sub in me. It helped so much. But yes, only have about 4mg total left. Guess ill just wait as long as possible before a tiny dose until im dry. And just wait and see what happens. With wife and 3 month old kid, I just can't be in horrible w/ds b/c my habit is hidden......

Ah, I see. Well if you've made 5 8mg strips last 2 months your tolerance shouldn't be very high at all. And 2 months isn't a huge amount of time to be on them. I am pretty confident that your withdrawals will be far from horrible. I know how it is, though, mentally we psych ourselves into believing it is giong to be completely horrible. But in my experience, it has never been as bad as I was anticipating, even coming off of a 2 year run on IV heroin.

Jumping off the subs you'll probably just feel uncomfortable for a week or so, especially at that low of a dose. If you can find any klonopin or xanax or something to use for a week or so after coming off, it'll get rid of the anxiety, RLS, insomnia. Also try valerian root. It's OTC and works VERY well for me for anxiety/sleeping problems/RLS since it has a similar mode of action as benzos.

Picking up 15 footballs today after work....may just try to go ahead and stop now since I took a few hydros instead of taking the rest of the sub. I can deal with most everything but the RLS. Have never tried valerian root, will have to give that a try. Will a riteaid/cvs carry that or should I just go to vitamin/nutrition store? Pretty cheap stuff?

Who knows, it's a fairly common "natural source" sleeping pill though.

This topic (coming off Suboxone onto full-agonist opiates for legit pain control) has been discussed before in the Mega thread. and it looks like it's been answered again here so I'm closing this

be very careful to stop your benzo usage after a week or two or you risk picking up a benzo addiction as well. Valerian is a lot more mild and shouldn't produce dependence. Avoid things like diphenhydramine and stimulants because they may makre your RLS worse.
