Dogs and psychedelics

I recently randomly thought of an event that happened about 4 years ago at my old house and thought to post about it on here:

So, my friends and I were having a little get-together in my parents' house basement and one of my friends decided that he wanted to eat some shrooms that night (by himself in a house full of drunk people... not my type of tripping environment but to each his own). So he ate them. The dosage was anywhere from 2.0g's to an eighth... I can't remember exactly. This guy in particular literally ALWAYS throws up when he eats mushrooms so about 15 minutes after eating them we're all outside on my back porch smoking a blunt and he just yaks all over the porch lol. My dog had been outside in my old fenced-in backyard running around as she used to do (RIP Amber!) and I guess the commotion of him throwing up caught her attention so she ran over and what does she do? She starts eating his throw-up. At first we didn't realize because we were all stoned out of our minds and more focused on our buddy who was about to be tripping bullets but eventually we heard the sound of my dog lapping up his throw-up and by the time we stopped her she had finished it all.

Now here's my first question: Did his throw-up actually contain any active chemicals in it? Like I said it was only 15 minutes after he ingested them in the first place. I'm not sure what the time-frame is there so I'm asking. We watched her very carefully the rest of the night (probably more than we watched my buddy lol) and she did do some things that we've never seen her do before. For one thing, at one point she left my group of friends and went into our little garage area and just laid down in the pitch-black for about an hour. She NEVER did this before that and it wasn't like her to want to be by herself. We were all wondering if she was tripping lol, which leads me to my second question: Can dogs even trip? I think I read online somewhere that psilocybin/psilocyn DOES affect dogs but (obviously) no one knows what happens to them mentally when they are under the influence.

Anyway, my dog was fine and she didn't seem to be physically harmed by this at all and went on living her merry life afterwards. I just figured I'd share this story and get some of your thoughts/comments on it.

After 15 minutes I highly doubt all of the psilocin/psilocybin was absorbed in your friends body so there's a good chance there was some alkaloids left in that vomit. Slightly OT but this totally reminds me of the time my dog got into the foil that I had use to make peanut-budder and let me tell you it definately affected him, I'd be shocked if the same didn't apply to other drugs. He was lying asleep with one eye open for 8 hours without moving... I felt so bad. Afterwards he was a very good dog, makes me wonder if he had some sort of glowing experience similar to that of psychedelics which caused him to straighten out his behavior (He was a very wild, outgoing dog, as most terriers are).

Another OT thing (sorry for slightly derailing your thread) is that my dog becomes very affectionate when I'm tripping, we bond very well during my trips. When I'm tripping at home he's at my side at all times and when I'm peaking and staring off into my dark room he will paww at my leg and start rubbing himself on me, like he's trying to get me to play with him. It can get annoying sometimes but once I take a look at him I can't help but pet him, his fur is so crazy and dimensional when I'm tripping. Dogs and psychedelics are awesome :D.

Yeah dude I feel like dogs and cats both pick up on something when their owner is tripping... although that could just be me being under the influence lol. They do say that dogs/cats can sense emotions and when your emotions are SO amplified by psychs it makes one think that the animal would only pick up on it even more. But yeah, dogs are probably the best creatures ever. Besides Kangaroos. A domesticated Kangaroo would probably trump a dog.

i cant be near dogs while tripping,i was once tripping around a really horny dog and it like full on tried to have its way with me it was to insane

Yeah they definately pick up on *something*. I mean my dog knows I'm tripping before I do. I'll be waiting to come-up and my dog will come from under the blankets and lay next to me. I should say that he doesn't lye with me all the time when sober and never wakes up from his beloved naps only to lay next to me and resume his activities by my side. He's like that one foot that keeps me in this reality when I'm really deep, he ALWAYS paws at me when I'm peaking, in fact I kinda use him as a meter to let me know when things are as deep as they're gonna get, and let me tell you, he's usually on Q. My cat on the other hand is boring and sleeps as if nothings going on, surprising as I always thought cats had more spiritual intuition but this is how she always is though... I wouldn't hesitate to replace her with a kangaroo lol, or even one of these cool miniature monkeys http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/08/08/article-2185570-14725330000005DC-739_634x367.jpg. I'll teach him to roll my blunts and joints cuz we all know how much of a challenge that is while tripping :/

Lol, you're joking right?

I've always figured this was due to a change in your body odor while tripping. Companion animals (dog/cat/some others) can usually smell their owners emotions, and tripping is stronger than most emotions.

No, it's possible, particularly if the dog is poorly trained/often aggressive with humans. It's unlikely the drug had much to do with it, though.

I'm aware of dogs humping humans, unfortunately from personal experience, just seemed like a strange/funny thing to happen whilst tripping. I too think it was unrelated to the drugs. Does body odor really change while tripping? I've only noticed odor changes on MDMA but that's usually just excess BO. I guess it is hard to pick up on your scent when all your senses are blended into one though.

now that you say it when i trip i always think my sweat smells different to my normal sweat, but that might just be me tripping

I've noticed the same thing. The last time I noticed it I tried to compare it with other smells (food, stuff like that) to see if they smelled different than when I'm sober. I felt my sweat/ body smell was noticeably different, where any other smells were relatively the same, just more enhanced. Again, this could just be due to me tripping.

i only notice this smell when tripping on LSD, i think the drug itself does cause a little smell in your sweat but its still hard to tell really

I remember me with my friends tripping in nature, whenever someone with a dog was in sight the dog immediately ran over to us and wouldn't stop following us. Yes we had a lot of awkward moments with dog owners while tripping balls lol

Can comment about dogs, but I think my cat definitely knows something is different when I'm tripping.
