i've recently been attempting to quit heroin again, using suboxone this time, and while i find benzos really help take the edge off, marijuana is really the best thing i've found to take away those awful cravings, after smoking i think "i don't need that shit, i'm so grateful to not have to worry about using that terrible shit or sticking needles in my arm."

so how does marijuana help you with your cravings?

i do find benzos + marijuana is much much better... however, has there been any research/legislation in the area of using marijuana as an aid for addiction like methadone/suboxone or in combination with one or the other?

mods feel free to move to darkside or marijuana, or wherever, thanks!

i'm quite sure there's been some research into marijuana as a maintenance drug for opiates. I don't remember the studies, for some people it works, though there are many opiate addicts who do not enjoy cannabis. My experience is mixed, still crave opiates regardless of what drug i take but the cravings are going away at least.

a strong indica would help but high thc sativa/sativa dom strains just make things worse for me.

i agree, which is why a benzo is almost always necessary... i find that marijuana specifically will make me feel guilty about using the needle... xanax not so much, which is dangerous...

This is also the case for me. The more trippy strains tend to give me an unpleasant edge which can be worse during cravings but a nice sedating couch-lock strain can be very effective in taking your mind of harder drugs (for me Opiates & Benzos).

The entire weed high usually just makes me super uncomfortable and I always just want it to end, so I rarely use it during withdrawal. But, recently I've tried doing a very very small amount and I didn't want to crawl out of my skin, so I'll take that.

I have friends that detox off dope solely with weed and benzos though.

I used Marijuana and Xanax to get through PAWS. Thankfully when I got out of detox (which didn't help me in any way) I got my Xanax prescription filled and got some weed. At night I would chew 2mg of the XR and take a double shot of Nyquil. Then a couple hits of low quality weed and off to bed. I didn't smoke during the day cause I needed the weed to knock me out at night. Worked like a charm.

I personally think it is hit or miss with me. I recently ran out of my pain scripts early and was going through wds. I came across some Bubba Kush it only took a couple of hits to gets sufficiently blazed but then the worst sense of panic and paranoia came over me. Sorry to ramble

Cannabis and things like Kratom or Benzodiazepines (I prefer Midazolam (Dormicum®) or Clonazepam (Rivotril®) as they seem to reduce my cravings the most). The only thing that helps really are... Opiates ;). Although get your hands on some Kratom leaf or good Kratom resin extract (can be up to 25x stronger than plain leaf and is much cheaper as well!).

Hope this info helps you out. :)

I've always found it to be pretty invaluable when it comes to withdrawal- the three biggest positives I get are:

* It relaxes me- personally I've always found that weed help with my anxiety (I've experienced paranoia a grand total of 3 times from weed) and it was no different when I was dopesick. It's nothing on benzos or whatever, but in the circumstances blunted the edge just a bit can be the difference between kicking & caving in to temptation.

* It helps with the insomnia- although weed rarely makes me sleepy anymore it certainly helps keep me asleep and I tend to feel far more refreshed when I do wake up if I' smoking pot. Being able to catch a decent block of 4-6 hour sleep instead of sleeping badly for 1-3 hours makes such a difference.

* It helps with the nausea and gives me an appetite- as paradoxical & kinda unpleasant as it sounds, I always found that trying to eat when you're dopesick makes a big difference. If you can get some food down and keep it down then it seems to help speed up your digestion/metabolism returning to a more normal non-opiate dependent state. I think it's simply extremely taxing on the body and some fuel is much appreciated.

IME the one downside to pot during withdrawal is that it pretty consistently causes RLS which I don't experience as part of my withdrawal if I'm not smoking...but tbh it's fairly minor, may not even be RLS, could just be mucle spasms being amplified by the dopesickness.

I get the feeling that it all depends on what symptoms of withdrawal you have the biggest difficulty with- if you can't stand the nausea and insomnia but can deal with RLS & muscle cramps/spasms then weed will help you out (as mentioned, particularly strong indicas with a good CBD:THC ratio), if teh reverse is true for you then it could easily cause a relapse by making those things even more unbearable.

Most of the time yea, if I'm craving blow really bad one weekend ill just get fried all day then I won't feel like going to the bar or anything and will just sit at home.
Ill still crave the cocaine but ill be too lazy to go out and buy some or go and drink where I will most likely end up buying some.
