Does depression take the natural "spark" out of YOUR eye?

Very funny you should mention that. I have very bright blue eyes, and I usually have people complimenting them all the time. But since I've been depressed it seems like my eyes have literally become duller. I was just thinking about this today looking in the mirror, and wondering "is it possible for your eyes to physically become duller?" I think it's just placebo cause I still had someone compliment my eyes the other day, but to me they look dull as fuck...

Yeah man, me too! My eyes are big and very bright blue, and ever since my depression started like 5 months ago its look as if they aged, they don't have that dazzling look to them anymore, just very dull.. It's strange how that works.. I think when your happy your serotonin levels are flowing great and give your eye that dilation along with the "wonder of the world" look, somewhat similar to MDMA buzz but not as intense obviously.

Butt, I have read that stress and depression can actually dull the color of youyr eyes, like basically fade away your eye colour.. That really sucks.

Really? I'd like to read that. That really would suck, and probably make me even more depressed. My eyes are like the one part of my body I actually like...

"Some people have noted that when they are ill or under stress that their eye color becomes darker or lighter. Clearly there has been a change in the distribution and/or density of melanin or lipofuscin on the iris. How this actually occurs is not fully understood, but we are beginning to have some clues as to the processes. A recent medication used to treat glaucoma, latanoprost, causes such a color change. We understand, at least partially, the mechanism of action of the drug, a prostaglandin analog, which means it mimics this hormone, which is normally present in the body. It would appear, then that hormones may have effect iris pigmentation and this might explain the change in eye color sometimes seen in adults. It should be mentioned that there are certain specific systemic and eye diseases that can cause a change in iris color and any marked change of short period of time requires prompt medical attention."

Thats just one.. Google "stress and eye colour" and read some of the results, alot of people experience our same problem.. Yeah I like my eyes alot, but I don't have any other complaints about any other part of my body, I like what god gave me for sure.

I don't know if it's the drugs or the depression, but the answer is a definite yes. I have brown eyes and they began looking less colourful and the outer parts of my iris turned a little black. Also the clean, mild glaze which gives the spark gets fucked up.

I believe it could be possible, sure.
I can see the stress on my face often.....especially recently.
It seems My face looks heavier and my i get black circles around my eyes.......
I'd like that to hurry and change! hahaha

Well aren't you lucky! Haha, I dunno I suffer from pretty low self esteem, my eyes are all I got!

I'll read up a bit, thanks.

Don't worry about it bro, through my depression i've come to realise that personality is all that matters. I use to be extrememly shallow, judgemental and a very superfical guy. After experienceing this i've become a much more intact nicer person, I use to be quite the asshole.

Plus if you've already got compliments about your eyes (which i'm assumings from girls) then i'm sure theres more behind just your eyes. Theres usually more behind it than just the eys bro.. trust me.

Also, don't stress about your eyes fading, that'll just make it worse. Plus i've also read that when you become happy your eye colour can oftern brighten, I'm not sure if its contrast or what, but they seem to flucuate. Unless your a geezer haha.

When I got out of rehab one of the first things that somebody told me was that my eyes had changed. Not really sure what to make of that, but I don't doubt that their appearance could change somewhat depending on our general state of mind.
