Does anyone find this strange?

"Change is the only constant". What about the truth-value of that proposition itself? If it is subject to change, then it will at some time become false. If the truth-value is constant, then we ought to say that "Change (and the truth value of this proposition) are the only constants". Of course, then we have to go one level higher to preserve our truth, so we inevitably generate an endless set of meta-truths, and in fact end up with an infinite number of constants. The statement has always seemed like one of those obviously self-contradictory bits of nonsense that somehow gets percieved as profound. I think this illustrates a wider trend, OP; you're reading too deeply into things that are actually pretty trivial. There are all sorts of genuinely fascinating phenomena in the world, there's no need to manufacture your own.

Can I take that as yay for coincidence?

coincidence has such a frigid connotation, it seems like a word devoid of any meaning, then again so does the phrase "deeper meaning" so it really doesn't matter. There's many more things that are interesting.
The one thing that I agree with the op, is that these things are "miraculous," but that's only if you're looking at it from the view that everything is "miraculous," because existence itself is "miraculous."

holy shit man. Lots of solid posts I must say.
Perhaps.. my thoughts were narrow-minded and ridiculous in the beginning...
however, this thread has evolved into an interesting read afterall.

Anyways...

I think the greatest paradoxical truth that this thread has proven (if any at all) is that...

* and boom goes the dynamite *

"the will to be different is a common similarity within the wicks of humanity"
(and you can put that in your paradox-pipe and smoke it)

And so our very attempt to stride apart, is what strings us together.

Thus, the incessancy of an opinion, 'to make one's self-heard'.
This over-abundance of self-expression... is........... also coincidentally.......... A CONSTANT.

on a side note, I totally agree that without any tone or delivery of the content, people are likely to interpretwords in unlikely ways.
And so it makes it very hard to tell if someone is being fecetious, sarcastic or even literal for that matter.

On a second side note, Im completely fucking around with the above-mentioned paradox.

and.. for the last god damn time. Change is a constant because it is inevitable. I realise that each and every 'change' is different in its own way, I realise that changes are inconsistent and in no way representative of a pattern of any sort!
I was viewing it from a very, very simplistic perspective... if you take it any further past the point im trying to make..
Than it's pretty obvious that 'change by definition' is not only not a constant, but rather the exact opposite.

i dont understand how this has three pages.

jumbo shrimp is a cool oxymoron too

the will to be different is a common similarity within the wicks of humanity
r u sure its not the things we have in common bring us together?

two people trying to be different is a common trait between them.

oh an consider y = 2x+ 1
its constantly changing at a rate of 2 with a constant of 1, is that paradoxical?

My global opinion:

I believe that the ground of being (ie, the context of conditioned possibilities out of which we emerge as knowers) structures us and our objects of inquiry in a way that confers depth of meaning to many paradoxes and contradictions. Namely, that which conditions what is possible lies beyond our practices of delineation in this investigation, seemingly indiscernable, beyond us, and seemingly paradoxical or contradictory. Thus, such points of inquiry present great opportunity to expand our understanding by transforming the relation between actual and possible, delineated and beyond inquiry.

Speculatively, this process ends in omniscience and stasis when all that could possibility come to be and come to be known has occurred and been integrated into the scope of our consciousness. At such a point, the possible and the actual lose their prior distinction (one which allows for distinctions to be made in the first place), returning (or 'realizing') their prior unity.

and thus spoke terrence mckenna. ^^^
Ebola, I completely agree with u. If you check out mckenna's videos on youtube, youll eventually come across his theory of togetherness; that the universe wills to have all points reconnect. That all the awareness we're gathering as a human race is only moving back to it's original conscienceness; The greater, greater mind.

and did you noticed that when you say poop your mouth does what your anus does when you actually poop :)

i think the op started the thread with 2 idea
one being coincidence and the other is why they do occur

as for what the second poster said, yeah i think you could go check some taoist philosophy
they came up with the i ching, its : the book of change, and the basic idea is that if you observe it all you notice that everything always change, and that never change
so tah dam youve got your paradox
the greeks expressed it with their saying that you never swim in the same river twice
it simply is a realization about the nature of duality that one thing hold its opposite
personally i like to express it with the notion that i dont oppose to the opposite sex, because its complimentary
another example is if a red shirt is red its because it aint red, red is the only color being reflected, but we call it red and its a hot color, except that if you wear a black shirt its gonna feel warmer than a white shirt because its absorbing all the light, red is closer to white and blue is closer to black so a red shirt would be colder than a blue shirt, so a warm color is actually cold
but its warm on the outside, cold on the inside
but reality is both in and out, opposite and complimentary
the only way you end up with a paradox in the sense that you felt that its contradictory and-or counter intuitive is simply because you have being brought up to view thing from one angle more than the other
if you balance yourself it doesnt feel like a paradox, it just makes perfect sense

bananas are the exact same shape as a crescent moon.
the moon, or lunar, is the root of lunacy or lunatic, words meaning insane or crazy people.
crazy people smile a lot, their grins in the same shape as the moon.
some of those smile especially when they put bananas in their bums.

whoah

I think this thread has probably run its course. I'm going to close it, if anyone feels it should be re-opened please shoot me a PM.
