I have had a good addiction on and off (more on than off the last year). I've tried everything by myself to stop as nobody knew I was dealing with this.

Finally I sucked it up & told the friends & family that were worried something was up and decided as AADAC recommended go yo my family doctor .

I explained how I was tryin to deal with pain from chronic kidney stones & it had got out of hand. That its the gods honest truth.

To my surprise instead of sending me off to rehab, which I expected & was ready for, she actually listened & understood.

She proceeded to write me a 'script for 8mg 4 x daily, which is what kept me stable & I can take extra when the pain gets bad. She also hastily got me appt with various specialists. now I've decided to wean off see if I do need it all the time & she's being fantastic with that slow enough I feel comfortable.

for anyone out there in a similar situation, & I know there are many. talk to your Dr. or find one that has some compassion & doesn't judge just helps. I wish id done this years ago. now there's hope for me & I can continue my life while in recovery.

I hope there's more Dr.s out there willing to help properly to leave the patients with dignity, respect & medical intervention.

Good vibes to all, especially those with a substance abuse problem, my heart & prayers go out to us all .

What were you addicted to, if you don't mind me asking? Sorry if it's obvious in your post--I tend to miss key words sometimes, lol. Did read it all tho. But yeah, I'm glad you found a doctor that helps and is compassionate instead of just throwing a script at ya and sending you on your way.

Once I get health insurance again (Jan. at the latest thanks to Obama's health care changes, or sooner if I decide to get craptastic insurance in the meantime. I'm hoping to find a caring doctor who I can talk opening about my addictive tendencies with, and with my anxiety issues with... Yet not have them seem that I want ADD meds to abuse...

Glad things are looking up for you dude. Keep on the sober track. I know I feel amazing since getting off my drug of "choice." Been maybe a month. Can't wait to see how life improves the longer I'm away from it. Was stuck in quite the rut for the longest time.

^I'd imagine its hydromorphone from the stated dosages.

Glad to hear things are going well for you dude. In my opinion it is def a good idea finding a compassionate doctor if your at a point where you want to try sort out an addiction that is having a negative impact on your life, cos they do exist :)
