Do your non-druggie friends ever use you as a source of knowledge about drugs?

I was watching "American Psycho" last night with a group of people I know who aren't recreational drug users (except one person who I smoke weed with on occasion), and in that one scene in which Patrick Bateman and those women are in the apartment, and one of them says something like (paraphrasing) "do you have Halcion? I could really use a Halcion right now", someone was like "what's Halcion?" And everyone looked over at me, like of course I would know right? I said "Uh, it's a tranquilizer I guess...kind of like Xanax" (I momentarily juggled between "tranquilizer" and "sleeping pill" after disregarding "benzodiazepine" as something that no one would recognize, then tried to think of a famous drug to compare it to that "normal people" would recognize, finally settling on Xanax)

Has anyone ever been in this situation before LOL? So far this year I've fielded questions on everything from LSD to meth, good lord.

Always. Everyone in my group of friends / randos know to ask me about this and that, to wit I'm more than willing to help. People need to educate themselves, yet, they do not.. I actually like helping others in this scenario, without my knowledge (Seriously NOT TRYING TO COME OFF AS A MARTYR, OR A KNOW IT ALL!) but out of the literal thousands of times it has happened, I either saved someone from doing something very fucking dumb, or enlightened them so they can have that knowledge..

pz <3 n thizz to all!

Halcion.....brings back a lot of memories of me and my friend raiding his parents' medicine cabinet when they weren't home haha.

But on topic, let me find some non drug using friends and ill let you know lol. But seriously yea everyone I know, drug user or not, looks to me for knowledge on drugs. Except for the ones who think they know more and try and tell me "cocaine is an opiate" and "people die from nitrous oxide all the time" and "I used to take 4000mg of Vicodin a day." By now I don't even bother, I just shake my head.

Oh and this girl I smoked some meth with the other night tried to tell me they still make quaaludes and she uses them "all the time." Fucking morons...

once my non-drug-using friend told me cocaine isn't addictive
i told her to actually try a few lines and then say that after her paycheck is practically gone for more powder

I hate shit like that, people spreading misinformation about subjects they obviously know nothing about.

My thoughts on the subject of drugs and talking about drugs is that it's something of an "esoteric interest" so I won't talk about it unless someone actively has an interest in discussing it with me, or asks me a question about it. Depending on who the individual in question was, I may lie and say that I haven't done some drug or feign ignorance over drugs in general, though. But among people who I'm close to, many of them know that I have at least an interest in the topic of drugs (even if they may not be aware of the true extent of my "interest", thank god), so if someone wants to talk about it from that perspective then I'm willing to discuss it, but it hardly ever comes up simply because non-drug addicts don't find drugs to be terribly interesting (well, some people who are interested in chemistry and medicine may), honestly, with the possible exception of cannabis which a large percentage of the population consumes & is de facto legal anyway (up for legitimate legalization on my state's ballot this year)

It's kind of like Christianity. I don't have many Christian friends but I have a few, and I never talk about it with them, and they thankfully don't talk about it to me. Christianity is probable more of a mainstream issue than drug use is, but same basic principle...

When I have friends who are mostly pot heads

So I always tell them about what they're taking, not in a cocky way but in a way just to make sure they're safe

My one druggy friend asks me questions sometimes if he is feeling lazy and won't google search. My other friends don't even think about drugs let alone talk about them. The one exception being my artist (professional) friend who occasionally inquires what LSD or DMT is like, though he isn't actually interested in doing any drugs.

Yeah I tend to be the more knowledgeable one. I have found that a lot of people don't care to learn.
A friend (who has only used mdma and weed) actually asked me, the other day, about the difference between LSD and coke. I then had to explain basic info about stimulants vs psychedelics.

But people also tend to not understand things... like you mentioned... a benzo is something we all know. But most people? No clue. Well, it's starting to be more known but not everyone does.

my friend asked me what halcion is last week!

i used to be asked a lot about drug stuff, still do on occasion

i used to be the one who got all the drugs though, everyone else either had no way to get them, or they cbf

When I was younger, yeah. I don't know anybody my age now who's super interested in drugs like they were as teenagers.

Hah, this is a fun thread. I grew up on BL and have been browsing for over 10 years. Thanks to that I've become a resident drug-guru for friends & acquaintances alike. I can't tell you how many times I've saved someone from bupe-induced precipitated withdrawal. Or how many times I've introduced people to the wonders of micron filtering. In fact I'm pretty sure I UA'd a text message asking me for a pill ID one time :D

Quite frequently yes, perhaps more based on looks (I actually do look a lot like Dude in the movie) than really knowing about my lifestyle. It's mostly younger people who ask about stuff they've seen in movies and such. I sometimes refer the smarter ones to this site.

umm..
Please stop searching my post history and responding to all of my posts, thanks.
