i was yelled at at my fathers house when I layed on the sofa to go to sleep a while back because somebody thought I was choking? because I will rock back and forth as it helps me fall asleep ,and sometimes ill shake really fast but short movement and I was told I looked like I was vibrating ...but anyway I don't know why I do it but it helps me fall asleep ,I never thought I was weird till somebody else has seen it ,I mean girlfriends have seen it and it never seem to phase cept while withdrawing I really get into it ,always helped the restless leg/arm

oh and this ISNT related to RLS first hand since I do it when I don't have it and just cant sleep

HYDRO_CHRONIC, my best friend in primary school used to do a similar sort of thing, except she'd just shake her head side to side. I didn't know wtf she was doing the first time we had a sleepover, and I tried it myself, but it just made me dizzy.

If I can't sleep I play word games - usually the abc game - choose a topic (countries, train stations, drugs, emotions, colours or whatever you can think of!) and try and think of one for every letter of the alphabet. Otherwise I'll choose a letter and try and come up with 50 words starting with that letter, which is harder than you think. If I achieve that, I go on to 100, and so on. Sometimes I'll also imagine I have 10 cats curled up sleeping all around my body so I can't move otherwise I'll disturb them. Helps to stop tossing and turning.

I cup my balls in my hands and enjoy the warmth... makes me fall asleep fast.

I usually dim the brightness on my cell, and play some logic based game to relax until I feel like sleep will be possible.

That, or sit up on bL which never proves effective.

toss and turn, get up to pee like 5 times. i have to. i cant sleep otherwise. lol

i do the word game too. altho i try to do it in french which demands a fair bit of my attention (but not enough to keep me awake) and distracts me from whatever else i was thinking about.

other times i play counting games, usually some variation on the game buzz normally you play the game by saying buzz when you get to a multiple of number. but i will add in things like prime numbers, squared or cubed numbers or other random things.

I take a blanket and lay it beside me up against my body. then grab the end closest to my head and wrap it behind my neck to help support my head. the tag end is then spread out so it half covers my face so that the fan that I have doesn't blow directly on my face and in my ear.

i count the time inbetween my breaths and slow them down as much as possible, starting at like 5 seconds in between each breath to 10 seconds. I have insane insomnia so often i just think about the nature of life/reality/existence as i wait to fall asleep. I also require a pillow between my legs, must sleep only half covered with a blanket and need the window open a tiny bit (it gets fucking cold here in the mornings like this) with white noise of a fan.

i'm not sure how weird that is but it's the only way i can sleep.

I sometimes go through the powers of 2 like counting in binary, 2 4 8 16 32 64 128. I go up to 32,768 currently, working on 2^16 or multiply higher and higher numbers until i have them memorized. I also do this in case i have public erections, the more intense the sensation in my pants the more difficulty required in multiplying numbers or doing exponents. lol.

I get ticks and speak in tongues if i lay flat on my back. I think this is some kundalini stuff going on here though. I literally feel negative energy move up and release off my spinal cord so, a type of cleansing and emotions and fear being brought up to the surface to be dealt with.

When i was a kid i used to bang my head against my pillow until i could fall asleep.

if one nostril is clearer than the other, i tend to sleep on that side. i get comfort with the feeling that any congestion will move towards the lower side clearing it.

If I have trouble getting off to sleep I stick one arm out and point at the ceiling,I focus on how the arm feels, after a while it gets tired and usually I'm not aware of lowering it as I have fallen asleep by then. Works like a charm.

I dont do anything odd when im trying to fall asleep, on the other hand when im putting my 3 year old down for a nap i lay him down on the bed warm up some milk and i have to stay next to him while he falling asleep or he'll freak out! And i make deep breathing sounds like im asleep to make him fall asleep (it's a lot of fucking work). If i get up thinking he's asleep he'll spring up ready to play. So i learned how he's breathing if he's asleep.

I used to do this until I moved in with my boyfriend. Can't play cell phone games anymore lol. I used to play Sudoku and solitaire on my phone until I finally got sleepy.
Now I just toss and turn. Ugggh! I hate sleeping / trying to sleep.

My latest addiction has been flow & flow bridges. Both so good. Some of the big iPad levels get crazy.

I actually count sheep. I know that doesn't sound very original since it's such a common impression but I feel like I'm one of the only people who actually does it haha

i suck my thumb at 24, but i know others do it. gee, why are my pores so shitty? maybe because i rub a silky piece of fabric all over it for an hour before i can sleep.

i tend to not like the bottoms of things, like the bottoms of the bindings of books and i try to "overcome" the bottom of the books by like skipping them along a surface like you'd skip while walking so the problem with the bottom of them is not there anymore.

Do you call the bit of fabric a name like 'nunu' or something? I had a friend who had a dirty piece of old blanket for the same comfort, they got really angry if anyone messed with it.
I reckon your longing for a breast feed, your like an adult cat that paddles and drools on you when it's settling down or wants attention.

wtf?

Oh! I forgot about the most obvious thing! I still sleep with a teddy bear lol, even though I'm 22. He's awesome. I actually can't get to sleep without him.
