I was wonder if benzos/opiates damage any part of the body. If someone was addicted to lets say Xanax or Oxycontin for a long period of time would he be doing internal damage to his organs/brain?

With most opioids you aren't damaging yourself with long term use, OD'ing you can harm yourself but otherwise they are fairly safe.

If you are using a combo med though, say oxycodone and APAP, and not cold water extracting it, then liver can get fucked.

Benzos not so sure...

I'd like to say neither are that bad for you, but it'd be a lie sort of. I know after years of seriously abusing/being addicted to benzos have seemed to have a major impact on my mental health. Like it's dumbed me down.

Opiates, my love in life; all I can say is they aren't that great for your liver and kidneys, and although I don't know for sure, I'm thinking they're not so great for your digestive organs. Going days/weeks without taking a shit can't be good

I'm sure they are damaging especially when abused concurrently for long periods of time. I know that benzos have definitely altered my brain chemistry in some way but I'm not too concerned about it. Personally I feel way better on a daily therapeutic dose of benzos and opiates than when I used to drink to excess everynight.

People who knew me during my heavy drinking days think that I'm sober now and always say oh you look so much better now.

I think the main danger is in over dosing, and the lifestyle that comes with extreme habits and unsanitary injecting conditions and overall poor health that is a result of taking everything too far in a country that makes it hard for people to use these drugs without a prescription.

Ultimately the individual user is responsible for their own health. I don't think opiates and benzos are that bad for you long term if you don't abuse them, I think alcohol is much harder on your system.
