Do Americans drink much?

Just a quick question... Over here in Australia there's this stigma that Americans can't drink much to save their lives, I'm sure this is untrue but I thought I'd scope it out. (I'm sure there's the same ratio of Aussies who can't handle their drink) So, do you guys drink much? (please no pissing comp, just like what you'd have on a night out so I can compare :-p)

Shit, in Austraila you guys all drink those really huge cans of beer, so thats why you guys can drink us under the table..
But yes, Americans drink WAY to much... starting at college and continuing to death.. alcohol is a horrible drug, and to many of these weak-spirited, sappy Americans can't handle their shit ..
Oh, I forgot: me digeridoo is as big as the neva-neva!

In terms of overall consumption, the US is only like number 4 or 5 in the world I think. Luxembourg consumes twice as much alcohol as the US each year!

Yeah I believe we do drink quite a bit, maybe too much. Binge drinking is on the uprise. In my opinion most of the city of Buffalo NY(my town

Our Australian beer is 375ml, and is around 5% alcohol concentration (I think thats 10 proof, but don't quote me)...
Just out of curiosity, how big and how strong exactly is american beer? (Full strength, not lite beer)

in sweden the beer are 330ml or 500ml. the strenght is usually round 5.2. they do however have a strenght stretch between 2 - 11. i prefer 7.2 tho
 
I am with phreex on this. Alcohol is a killer. I just lost my grampa because of it.

luxembourg is noway consuming more then the us, not even a quarter of all the american's would actually fit in this country.
and for the average's that wouldn't be fair because allot foreigners are buying alcohol in luxembourg because of the low prizes
 
As shitty of a drug as alcohol is. Most americans(And maybe other cultures) are almost taught and promoted from a young age to drink alcohol.
I'm sure there are many people who remember their parents drinking. And commercials and ads; everyone having "fun" when alcohol was around.
Alcohol is SO COOL but all other drugs are "bad, mmmmkay"

I wonder what % of college sr's are alcoholics? I was just thinking this as some of my idiot friends invited me to go drinking with them tonight, and I told them no, because I am not a hopeless alcoholic.. to which my friend responded: "I'm not an alcoholic, I'm a drunk, alcoholics go to meetings" .. so right he was .. I hope they all die in a traffic accident..

i myself have drank 24 beers and half a forty of 211(steel reserve) plus a couple bowls of some good commercial,but my uncle drank himself sober (fucking 4 cases 967 beers budweiser) plus he was smokin crack to) that was the wildest thing i have ever seen,but my dada was an alcaholic from 12 to around 27 he used to drink all day EVERY day,thank god he is sober now and didnt caus any damage to his self....but anaway HELL YEA AMERICANS CAN DRINK!!!
 
i meant 96 beers,i am 17myself..and fucked up at the moment to ,my cousin is here and fucked up as well,(bacardi 151) so ya know howit is...but man I LOVE AUSIE WOMEN I LOVE THE ACCENT ,any aussie girlies out the that want to hook up...?
 
the average of our beer is around 5.5% alcahol,but steel reserve is 8.7% alcahol ,i drank three forty's of them in one night plus 2 budweiseres and got kicked out of my cousins girlfriends house that night as well.the strongest alcahol here that is legal is everclear!(190)proof ...go's down like water!!

I think overall, 2/5 college students are binge drinkers and 4/5 frat/sorority members are binge drinkers. I forgot the study these came from but binge drinking still isn't alcoholism. They consider binge drinking to be the consumption of 13 or more drinks a week. I drink that in one night on the weekend during school. While not good for you, alcoholics consume much more than 13 a week. Also, you can drink 36 beers over the course of a weekend every weekend (like me) and not touch it during the week and you won't get any siginificant withdrawl symptoms. Don't get me wrong, I know a good bit of people, mainly frat brothers that must drink daily or they get the shakes. I also know a few people who wake up after a night of drinking and crack open another beer, I guess because it eases the withdrawl/hangover symptoms. Just my random thoughts on the subject.
 
american beer sucks. most of the common stuff is only 4% alcohol.

sorry ppl, but i think we Irish have got u all beaten.best drinkers ever!starting from age 8 til death do us part.
