I have just mentioned this on the opiates potentiating thread.

More specifically i would love to know what this actually does in the brain that effects opiates and opioid's.

For me I would like to know if it would positively effect things like Tramadol, Codeine, Bupe.

Lets have some scientist give the full fandango on this one.

Somebody has got to have the pharmy knowledge to know what dl-phenylalanine is doing.

i think with tramadol it could cause a seizure. i'd stay away from that one.

as for the others - i think in low doses it may potentiate the opiate high to some extent as it is a stimulant, and all stimulants in low doses can provide additional analgesia and euphoria from the opiates and the stimulant itself. if you go too overboard you'll just drown out the effects of the opiates though so be careful.

Thanks for your thoughts, its effects as stimulant seem rather weak although maybe in pharmalogical sense it isn't. Are you suggesting it could cause seizure because it is a stimulant which dont mix to well with tramadol.

I really want some science behind these answers. I am going to do further google research.#

hmm, theres not much in the literature about mixing d-pea and opiates together. the reason behind not mixing it with tramadol is because by itself it lowers your seizure threshold, but actually according to this study: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1471-4159.1970.tb02224.x/abstract

perhaps it doesn't effect the seizure threshold (d-pea). i still don't recommend using them together.

actually, it seems like dpea can also prolong your opiate high as it stops endorphin breakdown in the brain. check this article out:

Ha thats awesome dude we are both doing the same research at the same time. Yer it is actually this quality that i was most interested in as I am sure it will have a massive effect on opiates/opioids

I can attest the the fact that with tramadol which i dont normally get huge amounts of euphoria althought it is there, when i take 1g of DL with it the euphoria is doubled at least.

"Also, as DL-phenylalanine inhibits endorphin degradation, this leads to an inhibition of GABA release in the ventral tegmental neurons (in the midbrain), which results in greater dopamine release" taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phenylalanine

Strange that this compound doesn't get spoken about more. Seems to effect other area's of the brain aswell.

And even more bizarrely it is commercially produced by E.coli !!! who would of thought it!
