What are the quality control standards regarding even/equal distribution of the active chemical throughout a single pill.
For example, if you were able to perfectly cut an Opana 40mg into 8 identical pieces, would each piece be guaranteed to contain 5mg of oxymorphone?
I'm guessing pills that have a 'score' mark down the center of the pill should be uniform in content, because the score mark is a way of saying "it's okay to cut this pill," right?? However what about pills with no score mark suck as Oxycontin, Ms-Contin, Opana ER and IR, Suboxone, etc. For the pharm-manufacturers, is equal distribution absolutely required, or is it recommended, or is there no standard at all with non-scored pills?
Any insight appreciated.
